Travel has always been my passion and one of life’s greatest pleasures. Yet, like the moon, it has a darker side. In every new place you visit, you leave a part of your soul behind. What matters is not how many countries you have visited or how many landmarks you have seen, but the people you meet, the conversations you share, and the experiences that transport you into entirely different worlds.
The truth is that real travel does not happen outside you; it happens within you. It happens when you discover a new side of your personality, when you allow yourself to be humorous one day, adventurous the next, and serious the day after. In fleeting conversations with people you have only just met, you are, in fact, exploring a new part of yourself.
Travel by conventional means, however, is exhausting. Planes are crowded and uncomfortable, trains are hardly any better, and no hotel, regardless of how luxurious it may be, can offer the comfort of home. Yet we endure all of this because the real journey takes place within us. That is when the road, the plane, and the train become part of the pleasure.
Travel is like medicine: its benefits are immense, but its side effects cannot be ignored. A tear in your eye as you say goodbye to the people you met, a lingering smile at the memory of a brief conversation with a stranger, a sudden longing for the scent of a city you once passed through, the sound of a laugh that still follows you even though you can barely remember the person’s face, or a song you heard during your journey that brings every detail back the moment you hear it again. Then you realize that you are not merely saying goodbye to them; you are also saying goodbye to the version of yourself that existed while you were with them.
Perhaps the most beautiful thing about travel is that you never return as the same person who left. You carry with you passing faces, brief laughter, and small memories that continue to live within you. Real travel is not a place you reach, but a new person born inside you each time. It does not end when you return home; it begins when you discover that your home has somehow become larger than before. Every journey comes to an end, but its echo remains, until you become a map walking upon the earth, filled with unforgettable stories.
