ABOUT ME I'm a 49-year-old freelance translator (you can visit my freelancer profile here: https://www.proz.com/translator/3345205) born and raised in the Flemish city of Ghent, Belgium. Apart from languages (and their history), I am fond of traditional (folk) music and folk dancing, and I used to dance balfolk, tango and milonga. I started Wwoofing and volunteering with intentional communities, such as the Twelve Tribes, the Bruderhof and the Mennonites in September 2015. In the summer of 2016, I gave up my studio flat and started travelling as a Wwoofer and Workawayer. Since 2018, I take care of people's pets and homes (house sitting/pet sitting) while working as a freelance translator. Countries/regions I would really like to visit, include Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England, Iceland, Scandinavia, the US, Canada, Australia, Madagascar and Latin America.

I’m Basil! I love meeting new people, and learning about their life experiences. I’m open to share my short experiences on this world. (I automatically reject all requests if they use the wrong name, it’s my way of validating you read my profile) :) I love exploring speciality coffee cafes, underground bars, museums, and exploring new areas. I live in Belgium and an avid fan of a nice beer. I enjoy going to comedy shows and random gigs and a checking out new exhibition at the museum. In your request please mention why do you think it would be a good match. 🍃 friendly.

i am a friendly and relaxed guy living in Antwerp. I have been on this app for many years now. In August 2026 , I changed my bio because the world of couchsurfing recently changed. Since the app has been remodelled and since we have to pay to use it , the vibe draatically changed. From now on , I will be more restrictive because I hosted to many people who don't show appreciation after their visit It seems like couchsurfing is for people who travel and who are litteraly broke... So yes even sharing a drinkin a bar is not an option ,even bringing a bit of food or a small gift...or whatever...has become " difficult". Some vistors are really in a " non generous mode" and don't even realize they are... Some people come to your place and send you a positive comment and then disappear...Not even answering like ghosting....especially the young people.... Some people say they come and then never answer anymore...Like booking a free hotel and not even cancelling because it is free... So yes I think it was important for me to mention this because yes when you host someone , it requires some adaptation and effort and the ones visiting forget that a host has got a life next to that and a little bit of " recognition" is important because on top of that Couchsurfing as an organization doesn't make the difference between the devoted hosts and the " never online ,never answering inactive members..." Some people cross the limits and some of them need to read this and understand what the couchsurfing spirit is... I guess that I will understand in your requests if you went to read my bio till the end. I hope to come across people who got my message. Cheers
