In 2017, I left my home near Washington DC and moved to Munich to live with my now wife, Anja (who I met through CSing!). After five years in Germany, we decided to take an extended break from the corporate world to travel. Starting in December 2022, we spent the next 14 months first backpacking in East Africa, India, and Sri Lanka then enjoyed a "short" road trip from Germany to Mongolia and back in our self-renovated Lada Niva 4x4. After returning, we married, moved to Hamburg, recently had a baby boy, and bought a house in the countryside town of Bordesholm in Schleswig-Holstein. I’ve been an avid Couch-Surfer and Host since 2009, meeting many of the most interesting people I know. This community has opened my heart and mind to new cultures, languages, religions, foods, and experiences that have made me a more trusting and happier person. Hey, my name is Marie. I live in Kiel, a small city in the north of Germany. I love to spent my free time outside riding my bike, hiking and so on.
Moin (as we say in Kiel), Right now I started a world trip for 11 months, starting with Ghana. Currently I am in Argentina 👍 I will stay 6 weeks in each country to get to know it a bit. The plan is to meet many different people and cultures, to stay away from mainstream tourism and find the unique spots which only locals can show you :) I finished my mechatronics studies and since then I'm enjoying the good side of life 🤣. If you have never heard of mechatronics, its something in between electronics and mechanics, has to do a lot with microcomputers and sensors. At the beginning I wasn't sure if it's the right thing for me, but I totally love it now! I never run out of projects (and probably will never again). Study and hobby is for now the same thing. For example am I building my second electric longboard right now. I also really enjoy casual longboarding, I got 3 boards by now, so if you are interested in learning/riding I'll sure find the time for it ;D I traveled already as a kid a lot together with my mum and my younger brother. 3 years before my highschool graduation did I go for 11 months to venezuela on a student exchange, it was a really great experience to dive that deep into another culture.
