To get a more authentic experience while traveling, compared to just booking a hotel and slandering through common tourist sites. Every single time when I see a cat / dog / other sweet animal (mind you, I think of every animal as sweet) on the street or on a lawn and successfully pet it is a heartwarming and fulfilling moment for me.
