This April, Vancouver Visual Art Foundation and Art! Vancouver is launching the first ever Vancouver Gallery Crawl. In this unique event, forty galleries around Vancouver will be opening their doors to the public. More than fifteen of those galleries will also have special events onsite such as open receptions with artists, live artist performances, tours and talks. What are we doing? We are going to explore 5 galleries located near Main Street and Art! Vancouver International Art Fair in Vancouver Convention Centre. Where is the meeting point? We are meeting inside the Grunt Gallery. Those who are late can contact the organizer or catch up with us in the next gallery. How much is the tour? The tour is FREE, but be ready to buy your own transit ticket to get from Main street to Waterfront. To go to Art! Vancouver International Art Fair buy your ticket online or at the venue (15$ - 1 day pass). Do I need to know anything about art? Absolutely no! Even if you are not an artsy person, the Gallery Crawl is a great opportunity for meeting new people, exploring Vancouver and learning about modern Canadian culture. Which galleries are we visiting? 1. Grunt Gallery (4:00 pm) Internationally renowned artist-run centre of contemporary art. Exhibition: Requiem for Mirrors and Tigers (video performances by Guatemalan artist Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa) 2. South Main Gallery (4:30 pm) Contemporary art gallery, featuring works by emerging, mid-career and established artists. Exhibition: «Building Memory» (Architectural photography by Jeremy Woolf) 3. Hill's Native Art (5:00 pm) Large and most varied collection of First Nations and Inuit arts and crafts 4. R Space (5:30 pm) Non-profit artist-run gallery that focuses on the clashing and merging of Chinese and Canadian cultures Exhibition: «I moved to 2756 on tha street since 2016» (Photography by Charlotte Yao) 5. Field Conteporary (6:00 pm) Contemporary art space featuring emerging artists. Steve Hubert, Juli Majer, Deirdre McAdams, Alex Tedlie-Sturberg, Dylan Townley-Smith 6. Art! Vancouver International Art Fair (7:00 pm) First-class international art fair that features the finest artwork from art galleries and artists across Canada and around the globe. What are we going to do in the galleries? Each gallery is going to provide a comprehensive guided tour around current exhibitions.
