Hey guys, I am coming to Trinidad for 6 months with my husband and baby son. Any hints on where to live?

I am doing research and have to travel all over the island anyway and my husband is on parental leave. So we are pretty free to choose where we want to live. Would be nice close to the ocean or forests though....

Port of Spain and environs. Depends on your housing budget. Will you be driving? That opens up more places for you to live.

Agree with Tricia, in general moving tho PoS is easiest to start. Where in town really depends on budget. For quickest access to beach and forest and the city, I would suggest towards chaguaramas (check out Macqueripe Bay on maps). Travelling without own transportation will be a pain in the *ss. If you really plan on spending most of you're time on the road travelling through the country though, it could be a bad spot due to heavy traffic in and out of town every day.

Is traffic equally bad all day long or does it depend on the hour of the day? I guess I am pretty free with planning when I have to go places...

Depends on time of day. Morning rush hour means traffic towards the city is horrible and vice versa in the afternoon. Generally traffic is worse then elsewhere but managable with enough patience (imagine traffic between mainz and wiesbaden with 1 or 2 bridges being out of order). If you have to leave town going south and east a lot I could recommend St.Anns / Cascade area, I like living here and via Lady Young road you can get to the rest of the island without having to through the inner city.

Thanks for our comments guys - it will be PoS. We already had an apt. but now there is construction going on right next to it and we are in the wind again since dust and noise wont be too helpful in getting our son to sleep/nap :( If any of you have an apt for rent or know someone who knows someone....who does, let me know. about 7000TTD a month would be ok.
