Visiting for NYE with a buddy, what are some sites that are recommended for first-timers on a budget?

I know the question was asked below, and it sounds like OTR, and Northside are go to spots, but are there any other places that two dudes on a budget might enjoy? I'm personally into coffee, beer and alt-rock, punkish type music. We really don't have a plan or anything at this point...so any recommendations, or anyone who'd be willing to show us in the right direction would be so so so appreciated. I don't have a smartphone, but will try to respond as best as possible! I'd totally be down to exchange numbers or something if anyone is free today, or any other day coming up!

Thank you Angie and Felicia! We ventured up to Northside area last night and ended up in the tavern, and stopped by Rhinegeist (such a cool space!!), also made it to Bloc Coffee, and Woodburn Brewery today. Totally going to have to check out the other spots (we were thinking about stopping by Taft maybe tonight??). Having never been before, Cinci is a pretty awesome city! Again, thanks for the help!!

Great I'm glad you're enjoying yourselves! Taft (William Howard Taft) runs through Clifton - should be cool. Mostly restaurants with a few bars sprinkled about. UC area.

Hi Jordan/I second the OTR recommendation. It's where most 20 somethings will be. Since you mentioned coffee and alternative (anything), I'd also recommend checking out the gaslight district in Clifton on ludlow avenue - because it has a variety of elclectic (everything), including cool coffee shops. And you're spot on re Northside- which is actually also found by traveling down ludlow. Those are cool areas. OTR will be more chic, Northside & Gaslight: more alternative. The gaslight district is also very close to the college campus (which may be good or bad news to you). If it's good, also check out Clifton.

I highly recommend visiting some of our art museums. Both our classical and contemporary art museums are world class (for their exhibits & their architecture).

The Cincinnati Art Museum is within beautiful Eden Park just east of downtown, adjacent to the unique & very hilly Mt. Adam's neighborhood, a great area to explore during the day, grab lunch & see the view south into Kentucky. Then the Contemporary Art Center in the heart of downtown is also worthwhile, and best of all, they both have free admission now thanks to generous donors!

It sounds like you'd appreciate visiting the local Coffee Emporium, the location in OTR is always a safe bet & every coffee enthusiast I've ever taken there has left satisfied & with a few bags of their freshly ground seasonal beans for friends back home as well!

Unfortunately we got a late start and didn't make it to the art museums, we'll definitely be back though, going to have to check it out next time. If you've never been and are in the area, the Cleveland Museum of Art is also free and an amazing structure! :) Cheers, thanks again!

Jordan and mate ... if you have 20 minutes drive east of downtown to Eli's BarbQ.... It is a great space (go early), put some vinyl on their record player, check out some cool portraits of cultural and off beat celebs, its' BYOB if want a beer... truly the most amazing ribs and sides... my reco = dirty jalepeno cheddar grits, dirty baked beans, and 6 bones .... the "bark" (rub all carmelized and spicy just right) is second to none. Enjoy! I'm a native to Cincy and I've converted scores to this town... love it! TIP they open around 11 am so from 11 - 4 usually can get a seat inside - very limited seating. Tip 2 you can call them order and if there is a seat -- stay and enjoy the vibe. - Steve

I second Steve, Eli's has wonderful food. I crave it. They also have a location at the Findlay Market, which is another cool location to check out!
