Gyeongbokgung Palace and Bukchon Hanok Town Gyeongbokgung Palace was built in 1395, three years after the Joseon Dynasty was founded, and it served as the main palace for more than five hundred years. With Mount Bugaksan to its rear and the Street of Six Ministries (today’s Sejongno) outside Gwanghwamun Gate, the main entrance to the palace, Gyeongbokgung stood in the heart of the capital city. Many of these Hanoks operate as cultural centers, guesthouses, restaurants and tea houses, providing visitors with an opportunity to experience, learn and immerse themselves in traditional Korean culture.
