Couchsurfing in Belgrade tends to revolve around the city's famous nightlife, riverside splavovi (floating clubs and bars), and hosts who love debating everything from history to football over strong coffee. Meetups often happen at Skadarlija, the old bohemian quarter, or along the Sava and Danube riverbanks where the splav scene comes alive after dark. Dorćol is a favorite base, walkable, a bit gritty, and close to the fortress and river. Vračar offers a calmer, residential feel with good cafés and the striking Temple of Saint Sava nearby. New Belgrade, across the river, is more modern and spread out but well connected. Belgrade remains one of the more affordable European capitals, and Couchsurfing builds on that as a genuine hostel alternative and budget travel option, letting travelers spend on splav nights instead of a bed. Connecting with a local host here matters because Belgrade's history and current culture are often misunderstood from the outside, and a host can offer context a guidebook won't.

Questions fréquemment posées
What's the best time of year to visit Belgrade?
Late spring (May) and early fall (September) bring pleasant weather for exploring the riverside and Skadarlija without summer's heat. Summer is warm and the splav nightlife scene is in full swing, especially with music festivals along the river. Winter is cold but the indoor café and bar culture keeps the city lively year-round.
Is Belgrade safe for travelers?
Yes, Belgrade is generally safe, with low rates of violent crime toward tourists. Nightlife areas can get rowdy late at night, so normal caution around drinking and crowds applies. Petty theft is occasionally reported in busy areas, but overall the city is comfortable to walk around, including in the evening.
Is Couchsurfing a good hostel alternative in Belgrade?
Yes. Belgrade hostels are affordable, but Couchsurfing adds a free stay plus a host who can guide you toward the splav that's actually worth the cover charge that night, rather than the tourist-heavy ones, along with genuine conversation about the city's history and politics.
What neighborhoods should travelers explore or stay in, in Belgrade?
Dorćol is walkable and close to the fortress and river, with a slightly gritty charm. Vračar is calmer and residential, near the Temple of Saint Sava. New Belgrade is more modern and spread out but easy to reach by public transport. Belgrade's layout means a car isn't necessary for most visits.
What's the traveler and local community like in Belgrade?
Talkative and opinionated, in an engaging way. Hosts often invite guests to a splav for the night or a coffee that turns into a long conversation about history, politics, or football. It's a community that values direct, honest exchange over small talk.

WELCOME TO SERBIA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk7FGRnMjGQ CURRENT MISSION To make world better ABOUT ME Always on the move, enthusiastic and looking for a bright side... ABOUT HOSTING I prefer write conversation before I decide to host you, and your friends. Be patient, and try to explain by your words reasons why you would like to be hosted. I will decline immediately copy paste requests. PHILOSOPHY visited 40 states (17.3%)Create your own visited map of The World or Amsterdam travel guide for Android
CURRENT MISSION To explore the world whenever I get a chance. And meet people from all over the world. ABOUT ME A gourmand multitasker currently working in advertising. Love to travel. Love food. PHILOSOPHY The answer is 42, so there's probably no further philosophy.
CURRENT MISSION To travel as much as possible before I die ABOUT ME I prefer if others describe me. If you're so curious to find out read some comments that my hosts and guests wrote. PHILOSOPHY Too complicated to fit here. In fact, I'm not sure will I be ever able to define it in such way.
CURRENT MISSION Do something good every day - even if that's just giving someone a smile or a couple of nice words ABOUT ME I'm Russian and Serbian, which also means I speak both languages. And apart from English, I'm also really fluent in Spanish. I will need to establish communication with you before accepting your request, so don't be surprised if I decline you after receiving a short one-line couch request from you, because if there is nothing you have to say to me when you are asking to stay in my home, then how can I expect you to communicate with me when you arrive? And there is another very important reason why I need to take some time to communicate with you before I accept your request. I have a wonderful little girl, Masha (born in 2019), who speaks Russian and Serbian and is learning English and other languages. She is very friendly and likes guests even more than I do, but she will be a little bit shy when she meets you for the first time. Masha and I will do our best not to disturb you while you are sleeping in your room, but guests are also expected to like little kids and not be noisy in the evening when Masha is asleep, and, of course, behave in a way that is appropriate with a little child around the house. So please also make sure to read all the information on my profile before sending your request so you would know I'm the right host for you. Masha and I prefer people staying with us for several days, many times when my Couchsurfers and I worked out really well together I was happy to have them stay for more than a week or two, but if you are only staying in Belgrade for 2-3 days I will be happy to host you providing our schedules match (it's really no fun hosting a person you don't even get to have a good talk with). I'm really not too happy having people stay for only 1 night. PHILOSOPHY Live and let live ;)
