Originally from the US, I have spent the last 30 years in Costa Rica working in the nonprofit and technology sectors. As a founder of a startup and an educator, I have been deeply involved in nurturing the tech community here. My life in Costa Rica has been a blend of business challenges and rich cultural exchanges. I love exploring new ideas and collaborating on projects that have a positive impact.
Hey Surfers! We're Jean & Clari. We love meeting new people, discovering new places, and exploring everything from restaurants and coffee shops to bars and hidden gems. We’d describe ourselves as adventurous and always up for trying new things—whether it’s a new recipe, a new city, or a new hobby. Lately, we've been getting into pickleball (so if you play, let’s hit the court!). A little about us: Jean is an Electromechanical Engineer & physicist, enjoys video games, and sports (specially soccer). Clari is a Graphic Designer with a passion for creativity and movement, especially dancing! We both share a love for music, experimenting in the kitchen, and embracing new experiences. Whether it's a deep conversation over coffee, a night out exploring, nature adventures, or a cozy evening at home, we’re always open to sharing good vibes and great company. Looking forward to meeting fellow travelers and making new memories together :)
I really enjoy meeting new people and showing travelers my beautiful country. I love hanging out with new and old friends, and sharing good moments. I like to see that there is goodness in the world without asking for anything in return. ……………………. If you’re copy-pasting a request, please make sure to personalize it properly. My name is Esteban (not Estaban), and I appreciate greetings that include my name rather than very generic “Hi” or “Hey there”. I also have a gym membership that allows me to bring guests, so if you’d like to work out during your stay, just let me know and we can go together. >> Before sending a request to a host, it is important to read the “My home” section to avoid any misunderstanding or having wrong expectations <<
I'd describe myself as an individual who is highly interested in nature and about becoming more educated when it comes to environment and economics... I’m an industrial engineer and aspiring data scientist & Machine Learning engineer in the making. Constantly trying to push the envelope and get out of my comfort zone. I’m into nature a lot and have a strong passion for trees and orchids 🌲 🌳 🌸 I’ve got my own tiny reforestation projects here in Costa Rica in order to save endangered hardwood native trees. Also gotta confess that one of my biggest passions is craft beer. I love tasting new flavours and trying new forms of IPAs. 🍺 Coffee blends, books & bicycles are a big part of my life too... ☕️ 🚲 📖

Easy going and always up for new adventures. I studied Environmental Engineering and I am really interested about mother earth and its well-being. https://www.instagram.com/jeremych26/ I am here to make the most of my time on Earth. I don’t want to look back with regrets about things I didn’t try. I try to embrace the now, live it fully, and when it’s time for something new, I welcome it with open arms.
IG: LUCACHACO THE MOST IMPORTANT TIP Since there is FREE WIFI at the airport the easiest way to leave the airport is by UBER. I highly recommend you to install UBER. It is a Taxi Service app which is a lot CHEAPER and SAFER than taking a normal taxi. If you install it with the following link you will get a promo credit for your first trip. https://www.uber.com/invite/uber_pv So with that link you could easily go from the airport to San Jose for FREE instead of a 30 or 40 USD taxi ;) The same way when you are leaving the country you can just take an UBER to get to the AIRPORT no matter the time. They are always available 24/7 and it is HALF the price of a normal taxi. Don't even bother asking hotels or hostal because they will try to sell you shuttles :( WHERE TO EXCHANGE MONEY --> http://bit.ly/2iz1PkW MOST IMPORTANT BUS SCHEDULES: --> http://bit.ly/2pQZkRU WHAT IS CHEAP AND EXPENSIVE IN COSTA RICA? -> http://bit.ly/2joRht5 NOW ABOUT ME----> In 2014 I did and internship in Germany. I lived there for almost one year. It was an amazing experience and was able to participate in Couch Surfing events. Now that I am in San José I want to be part of the Couch Surfing community of Costa Rica. I work as a software developer and enjoy meeting people and travelers from different backgrounds to share experiences.
CURRENT MISSION Make friends, help out...we travel on a slender budget often ourselves. ABOUT ME I'm a long-time resident of Costa Rica, married and mother of 2. We sold the farm we bought here in the early 70s,,. and recently returned to the very same area, just a kilometer or two from where we first settled in 1971. We read a lot, and travel as much as we can,. Well, we DID. Often doing home-exchanges. We enjoy good food, and mostly cook and bake at home, rather than eating out. PHILOSOPHY We're community-minded, non-religious people, politically progressive . We don't need to be saved; we don't believe that tofu is the epitome of human cuisine; we don't do anything that requires Spandex; we don't just "put it out there"...we have goals and we work toward them. Play is one of our goals:)
I'm a chill person; I enjoy reading books, gardening, hiking, etc, but I also enjoy new experiences; eating food I've never tried, visiting places I've never been before, and I love learning new things. If we're talking and we don't know something I'm definitely gonna google it 😅 I like hanging out with foreign people because they always bring new perspectives; their own way of doing or seeing things.
Travel has been my life's most excellent teacher. CURRENT MISSION: To bring the color, light, and everything nice all in my pocket ;) ...and try and leave the world a better place than I found it.
I am a dancing chipmunk! Impulsive yet thoughtful, unpredictable, nomadic, politically incorrect and very outgoing. I cannot stay for too long in the same place. While I have a house now, it might as well be a green backpack at any time, the world itself is my home. My passions are cultures (learn, read, talk, share, live, experience them), languages, cooking, arts and helping people. I like, philosophy, sociology, silly jokes, and outdoorsy stuff. I like to read novels, write poetry, to meet people, drink coffee... More questions?? Ask me!
NOTE 2026 Moved to Sabana Sur, very close to Parque la Sabana. Guests have a room, sleep on an individual inflatable mattress 2025 I moved to San Juan de Sarchi. It's a nice little house with two bedrooms. The guest room has bunk beds! 20212-2024 Living in San Jose. I'd rather live at the beach ⛱ but it's very convenient living here and the weather is very comfortable 👌 2019-2021 I have visited many new areas in central Mexico, almost all were inland. The mountains of San Louis Posti have many beautiful places to visit! I also visited Guatemala and Costa Rica and ... I fell in love with southern CR and moved there! ... There is a complicated story where I ended up living in Mexico City and Mérida after a while ... I then moved to Playa Coco in CR which I did not like (although Playas Hermosa and Panama are nice) and then lived 3 awesome months in Playa Grande, near Tamarindo 👍 ... before moving to various areas in the GAM (San Jose area) 🤮... although I admit the condos I live in are nice. I finally visited San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, for a month, and farther north. It is a beautiful country and very affordable but I was stopped 20 times for inspections and had to donate to the local police 5 of those times! Yes, I traveled a lot in my month on my motorcycle but the police and the political climate, well, I don't want to live in an environment such as that🙀 2016 TO 2018 - 3 awesome years living in Eureka California where the marvelous Redwoods are located! * Please read "Sleeping Arrangements" in the "My Home" section regarding where you will sleep and "Our Experience Together"! If you do not specifically refer to what I write in "Our Experience Together", I will decline you. CURRENT MISSION Enjoy trips with like minded individuals! ABOUT ME I enjoy travel, primarily using timeshares from 2004 to 2018, or staying with fellow Couchsurfers and famly! Enjoying experiences with a local's expertise when traveling and happy to host those in my area! PHILOSOPHY Doing my best to take it easy, I'm a recovering Anal Retentive type!
