There's no better way to get the real grasp of any place than by talking and staying with locals. The whole idea of networking and getting to know new people that were total strangers just hours ago is simply incredible.
Musique, films et livres
Almost all kinds of music and movie genres work for me just fine but I would highlight Rock, Pop, Spanish music, musicals and Haruki Murakami's books.
