Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
Though a change in jobs, I am no longer locked down to one location anymore, and my availability to travel has increased significantly. I like to travel light, experience the local culture and gain new perspectives wherever I go.
Musique, films et livres
Music: Modest Mouse, The Bravery, Silversun Pickups, Cold War Kids, The Postal Service Movies: Honestly, I don't watch many, but I prefer psychological studies, film noir, and trippy art pieces (Citizen Kane, All About Eve, Pan's Labyrinth, Metropolis, etc.) Books: Some of my more recent reads have been espionage thrillers (such as the Borne series), American Gods (Neil Gaiman), Snow Crash (Neal Stephenson), His Master's Voice (Stanislaw Lem), and several Gail Carriger novels [hey, don't judge me. They're fun.] =)
Une chose incroyable que j'ai faite
I guess that I'll grab the first thing that comes to mind... This last summer I was part of a group of backpackers that were doing a 4-day trip in the Weminuche Wilderness in Colorado. One of the people in our group got lost (she went ahead of us to try to make up some time and took a wrong turn). When we got to our destination, she wasn't there. I used to be a survival instructor at the Air Force Academy, so I planned out my own search-and-rescue mission to try to find her (with the coordination of the rest of my group and my HAM radio). I found her about 2 hours later, and she had missed a turn and walked to the wrong lake, realized that she was at the wrong place, then turned around and headed back. She had walked about 15 miles, and was dehydrated and exhausted. I got her to a spot for her to camp that night, helped her recover and gave her some extra clothes to keep warm, and hiked back to our camp which was 4 miles uphill from where she set up camp. She hiked out the next day with another member of our group, while 4 of us did a day-hike to a mountain summit over Half Moon Lake, which required crossing 6'-deep snow fields, knee-deep ice-cold water, and scrambling up Class 2 terrain.
