One of the fun side-benefits of being a grad student is that they make you travel everywhere (for conferences, seminars, and God knows what else); so I'm cruising excitedly around the Midwest (where I've never been before), and got CouchSurfing recommended to me as a great way to find a place where I'm visiting.
