Welcome to 50s+ Travellers!

Hello to all, and a BIG welcome to new members, whom we encourage to be involved.

We hope this group will provide support and a safe space for those "middle aged" and beyond, who have an abundance of experience to share on a world-wide scale .

The 50s+ Travellers group is among the most active within our CouchSurfing community. There are scores of Topics here for you to peruse and post to.

We are happy when members open threads, so if you have a topic, start a thread about it. If you do not feel comfortable writing in English, write in a language of your choice.

Please take a moment to look over the Group's Guidelines. These are the rules we all live by here.

There are affiliated Groups that provide a forum for 50s+ Surfers or Hosts. Check out those groups if you are seeking a Host, or a Surfer. Good luck to everyone!

Removed content.

This morning, in my feed, found two warnings mentioning that some of my content has been removed, "to keep the community...", whatever that means. I can't even know why because when I click on the truncated message, it displays the General policy page, no specifics.

I learned that moderators can remove content, as well as Couchsurfing staff. Did one of our moderators do that?

At first, I thought it was about my recent post regarding the "Recently active" tag, but the post still stands, and I always use common sense when posting to avoid offending anyone and being subject to sanctions.

Would a police officer issue a ticket without telling what you did wrong? On Couchsurfing today, it seems anything is possible...

Has anyone received similar messages recently?

I'm searching for a recent post-

-in another group; "rural Russia" or maybe "rural Siberia"

But can't find it today. I failed to "join group" but it seems to allow posts anyway...

Today is "Indigenous Peoples Day" on my calendar.

(Only in USA I think)

And I don't believe I ever saw that before. It's also called Columbus Day. Some seriously horrible people came and ruined the place...

Home rules?

What are some rules you have in regards to prople visiting &/or staying in your home? Cleaning up after themselves is probably in every host’s rules for their guests, but what else?

i ask that guests remove their shoes inside and this a quiet building, so I also request they be quiet after 11pm Like most hosts I ask that my guest doesn’t briing other people here. (though one time that happened and the person my Couchsurfing guest brought to my home ended up being a better guest than the Couchsurfer guest 🤷🏻‍♀️) I request guests go out during the day because I like having my place to myself during the day. Vaping or smoking cannabis is ok, but they have to go outside to vape or smoke tobacco.

Miami 14 October To 21 October

Hey everyone! 👋 I'll be in Miami from 14 October to 21 October, traveling solo, and I'm looking to meet some fun people to enjoy the city with. I'm up for beaches, sightseeing, good food, events, nightlife, clubs, or just exploring Miami together.

I'm open to meeting people from anywhere — locals or travelers. If you'll be around during those dates and want to hang out or join some activities, feel free to message me. Let's make some great Miami memories

Good to know about friends request

In the old days (that is before the Nakba that occurred in May), when receiving friend requests, we could message the sender and ask why they were sending the request. It sometimes changed my mind and got some positive returns from this type of conversation.

Now, it's different, and you might be interested in knowing how it works:

1 - No interaction is allowed other than accepting or declining the request. You are blocked from requesting a chat with the other user as long as the request is pending.

2 - After you replied, then you can send a chat request like you normally do

3 - It seems like friend requests disappear after a few days.

We had much worse changes, but it's good to know how it works.

Did anyone ever "FlyDubai"?

I now read the 787? lost tail pieces on its dive over Saudi while the struggle in the cockpit went on. (supersonic)

Poll: Connected contacts

Support has not been responsive to my request regarding my personal contacts appearing under the "Connected contacts" section of the settings. In my profile, a few dozen people are listed under the "Users you know" subsection, with some showing links to their profile, and others showing invite link even though a few are Couchsurfing members. All these contacts' names start with the letter A, which indicates only the first in alphabetical order are displayed. This is odd and needs to be sorted out.

Could you please access this link to your settings: https://www.couchsurfing.com/c/users/settings/connected-contacts

And see what is displayed in your "connected contacts" subsection? Please mention whether you linked your Google account to your Couchsurfing account...

Thanks a lot.
