Best way to book coach tickets (bus). Buy in advance or at the moment? Buy both the "go" and "return" ticket?

I saw best option is https://www.nationalexpress.com/en/destinations/canterbury but still I have some doubts about the details

Is it cheaper to buy in advance? Is this recommended?
Should I buy also the return?

I'm not 100% sure, because I've not really been living in the UK for a while, but typically it's cheaper to buy tickets in advance AND get the return ticket.

Also, one of the cheapest ways to get around the UK by bus has to be Megabus - that's something else worth checking out when planning your trips: https://eseu.megabus.com/

And of course, Blablacar too! :)

For national express it is definitely cheaper to buy several days in advance. The same applies to trains. For a return ticket it is best to check the price of 2 singles and compare to return. Sometimes it will be cheaper to get 2 single tickets, but it depends!

Finally, I booked previously all my bus ticket through NationalExpress, although this webpage had a booking fare of £1, but I don't know if it would have been cheaper to buy it in person....
