Post in List of really cool stuff to do in Calgary that only locals know about

I will have turned 50, and am going to take a week in a camper van to get over the Rockies to Victoria to be with a friend. This is my first time in Canada, I am not on the tourist path perse. I would love to meet people, maybe stop for longer, and looking for good and cheep van/truck/ motor home rents. Ideally just a small camper or load truck I can put a bike and a mattress into. But first and foremost in need tips, guidance and am happy to share a ride if someone else is going or wants to go with me. I am sure that my profile is quite self explanatory what sort of person I am. Thanks for all tips
