You'll definitely want to take advantage of services like Lyft or Uber. It's an app you install on your smartphone that lets you summon a driver on-demand to go pretty much anywhere you want for pretty cheap. In lieu of public transit, this will be your best bet for conveniently traveling from West Anaheim to LA without renting your own car.
If you're cool with referral links, here's mine for Lyfy. Signing up for Lyft with it will get us each a couple bucks worth of credit for the service: https://www.lyft.com/invite/IAMMATTO
Amtrak and Metrolink. They both end up at Union Station in LA and you could take the subway/metro anywhere from there.
Also, Mikolaj, keep in mind that you may be closest to the Fullerton or Buena Park metrolink/amtrak stations, rather than the Anaheim station.
Light rail is very reliable
Take the Metrolink. It's such an easy commute, and no traffic. Once you get to LA Union station, then you can take Lyft carpool. http://www.octa.net/Metrolink/How-to-Ride/System-Map/
I agree....Metrolink is your most cost effective way and relatively convenient to getting around LA on the light rail.

And I agree with others: Anaheim is boring. Disneyland will run over $100 for admission..I've never been a Disneyland person so you may ignore this comment. But, move closer to LA, you'll save money in the long run and have more fun
You're staying in the wrong location if you need to be downtown. I seriously suggest rebooking to stay closer to where you need to be but if you're against that idea, amtrak goes to Anaheim to downtown Los Angeles. 12 times a day. $15 each way between 50 minutes in an hour 10 minutes. Depending where in West Anaheim you are the Amtrak stations probably 45 minutes away from you by public transit. And then once you get to downtown Los Angeles depending on what part of downtown you need to be in you've got another 20 minutes there. There will be also some less expensive but slower buses requiring a number of changes Google Maps will show those
I would love to rebook, but can't
People can always give you better answers if they get more detail from you. Otherwise we make assumptions as to locations, needs, how you value of time vs money. It so helps to specify what you mean by best.. fastest, cheapest, open late, etc.? ¶ ¶ I am also surprised that you didn't look at Google Maps and report/ask about the results. Use The Force dude. ¶ No one has told you anything you wouldn't find from Google Maps. It is always the "last mile" that is the fussy part. ¶ More: renting a car means parking which is up to $20 downtown (no in-out) and again if you go out in the evening. This is a big advantage to Peer-transit (Uber-Lyft), no parking. If you don't need to drive far-off the bus routes to sightsee with some friends, save the hassle and take public (+ last-mile if you need that). ¶ Walking is fun and you see more. Look up Grand Central Market downtown, Angles Flight, Phllippe's, the dragon statue over Broadway street at the south end of Chinatown, the Last Bookstore, the Broad and MOMA museums, and much much more. ¶ Who cares if you have to go back to Anaheim late? This is experience in your life. ¶ +-------------------------------------------+ PS Couchsurfing. We could use some ability to make a paragraph, aka blank lines.
Anaheim - ARTIC Station | Metrolink Mega Bus if you go to Vegas or San Francisco Buses are ~$9 US per day or you can buy a day pass if on a budget! Shuttles can cost you 20-80 dollars Amtrak is nice and around 18.00 ea way Uber is very $$ to LA but convenient
Metrolink is your cheapest option although Amtrak can also be taken. But with metrolink you can also continue for free using public transit using your ticket. https://www.metrolinktrains.com/rider-info/general-info/transit-connections/
Metrolink, but you dont need to go to ARTIC Station. You can also access Fullerton or Buena Park, which are probably closer to West Anaheim and closer to Downtown LA.
You can also hope on a bus heading west and connect to the LA Metro Blue line, which will probably be the cheapest option.
As others have said, it is not going to be easy. West Anaheim is rather inaccessible and far from Downtown LA. Everyone is kind of expected to own a car and be willing to sit in hours of traffic.
Anaheim is a boring and uninteresting city, other than Disneyland and some good Vietnamese restaurants not much to see there.
There is bus Metro Express bus 460 take you from 7th/figueroa to Disney land and Disney land and back. Only cost you $1.75 one way https://media.metro.net/riding_metro/bus_overview/images/460.pdf
Take apps 2-2 1/2 hours on freeway 110 to 105 and part 5. Tickets and information Metro - Los Angeles - 1 (323) 466-3876. If you have smart phone or computer, you could google it. Or Download MetroandBus app! Metro link fast but more expensive. You pay what you get....
I mean 2 -2:15 hrs per one way depends on traffic on the road and freeway. Morning usually faster than afternoon. I don't know bus 460 schedule perhaps you could google the schedule and it's map to see where you could take a stop near where you want to go....
