Guys thank you all for replying to my request, let me take the time to reply to each of you individually, I really appreciate your help!

I will be working in the Upper East Side, New York City for a whole year starting this September.

I will be working as an intern with a real estate broker. I know that New York city is extremely expensive and that a room under 1000 dollars is rare but I know it is possible to find something that's why I'm asking for your advices!

I am very flexible, living with a family, some students, whatever! Just text me I will give you more information about myself , want to keep this conversation useful for other people too.

When are you arriving? I agree that Gypsy Housing the FB group is a good resource but I've found some of my very best roommates here on Couchsurfing in the NYC Housing and Sublets group. I may have a room available to rent again in the fall depending on when you arrive. I have two roommates currently and always prefer living with couchsurfers because of the shared mentality! -stefan

half this answers are garbage (clifton nj? really? haha). you neglected to let u know your budget, or what you're doing in NYC and where you may be working, or need to be every day. join the FB group nyc couchsurfing in the pinned post we link to a link of all the places to look. this includes all the gypsy housing groups.

Places like Clifton NJ is much much cheaper then NYC. It's easy to get to NYC by train or bus.

Why are you coming? Student? Job? The closer you can be on public transportation to where you need to be, the better your experience. So much depends on that. I agree NJ is cheaper, but for a single woman with a specific time to be in the City, planning on using subways and NYC buses is smarter. Otherwise, all you will experience will be worrying about catching the bus or train to NJ. If you want some real New Yorker advice, be more specific. I assume you want some kind of social life , and to remain safe. Re apartment choice: try to get a building with laundry facilities, near a subway, and near a supermarket. You will be running all your errands on foot. Also, check out the neighborhood late at night (preferably a Saturday) before you commit.

Craigslist and theres another website with people looking for roommates

theres a lot of safe neighborhoods you would be great in with public transportation (basically the further north you go in manhattan and the further east you go in queens and brooklyn it gets sketchy.

suggestion live as close as you can to your school/work, I dont know what your budget is to suggest a neighborhood. Let me know if you have other questions
