Does anyone here know if a european guy will have troubles to get in Costa Rica for not having a return ticket??
Hey! So... A friend from Czech Republic is coming to Costa Rica but he's thinking on buying only one-way ticket. Thing is, I'm afraid he could get into trouble at the airport for not having a return ticket. Do you know if that could be a problem??

You MUST demonstrate an exit ticket out of the country on or before your visa expiration date. A bus ticket to Panamá or Nicaragua is enough and can be bought cheaply online. If he does not have something purchased demonstrating he's leaving the country his entry will be refused.
Great!!! Thanks a lot for the advice!
Airlines won't let a passenger board without proof of exiting CR since they get fined if such a passenger arrives in CR. Most people buy a refundable ticket and cancel it when they land Normally the process is you must exit the mode you entered so if you fly in you need to fly out and if you bus it you should bus out
Huh, I see... Perfect! Thank you so much for your help!! :D
He need it, but is enough If he have a reservation to go back Or to buy a ticket ti Nicaragua Or Panamá bu bus ((Us$20 one Way)
Genial!!! GRACIAS!!! :D
Hola, Luis. Gracias
CR Migracion/Immigration is quite tight on people entering CR having proof they're leaving CR within 90 days since that is the law - ESPECIALLY at the land borders. I've spoken with numerous Migracion officials at the border & I've talked to MANY MANY people that have crossed at the Peñas Blanca border & I have not heard of anyone getting through in AGES!!! Even people living in Nicaragua just doing their own boarder run MUST have that ticket or they are refused entry into CR. Flying in without a ticket IF the airline were to allow you on the plane (the airline risks a $10,000 fine from CR Migracion).
A one-way TicaBus ticket to Panama is MINIMUM $84 & a one-way to Managua, Nicaragua is just around $27-$28 (FYI - I've been doing the CR-Nicaragua Visa Run for 11-1/2 years so LOTS of experience & I have LOTS of info on Nicaragua where I spend 2-3 months a year).
The easiest/cheapest way to get the proof you're leaving CR within 90 days is via Tica Bus as you can order it online via email. I've done a clear step-by-step on it at: http://livinglifeincostarica.blogspot.com/2014/05/BuyTicaBusTicketOnlineProceedure.html
HINT: Some people "CLAIM" they got less than a 90 day stamp but so far the FEW people where it was true that I've seen (vs people doing residency or their minnuns) usually had an "Open-Ended Ticket" which is proof you're leaving in 365 days - NOT 90!! I've talked to a few Migracion officers that said they felt the people were making a mockery of what little they ask from us that make it easy for those living here full time without residency.
Hey Natasha, have you heard about Fake flight ticket generator ??
Print your own onward or return flight ticket with this free service. Many countries insist that you hold a flight ticket out from their country, which must be presented upon arrival at immigration.
Horrible idea. The authorities are not stupid you know? And it is the airline that verifies your way out BEFORE you board to come here. If caught I bet you would wind up in a detention cell. Really wanna risk that over a $20 bus ticket to Nicaragua?
I have SEEN authorities CALL the airlines if they think it's a bogus ticket & guess who's NOT getting in (especially on a plane as if you don't buy an airline ticket right there & then, you're on the plane back at YOUR expense)
I don´t recommend it, you could end up in the jail El Buen Pastor
Good to know that CR authorities are becoming more responsible toward their task. Thanks Mauricio, Vicki & Ivannia for such accurate, wise and proper clarification. Therefore, my apologise for any inconvenient my unsuitalbe advice may have triggered.
They never asked me if I had a ticket to leave nor for any documentation showing that I have a ticket ... but maybe that's just me ?? /// I travel a lot and never get asked for return ticket or exit ticket :\
I think that you might be asked for it, but it's really random.
