O bar Stonewall Inn era conhecido como ponto de encontro de pessoas LGBT+ em Nova York e por isso, sofria com recorrentes batidas policiais. No dia 28 de junho de 1969 a polícia invadiu o bar pela terceira vez na mesma semana sob o pretexto de ilegalidade de bebida alcoólica. Nessa batida, funcionários e frequentadores foram presos e agredidos. A violenta abordagem gerou revoltas e protestos no que ficou conhecido como a Revolta de Stonewall, que culminou na primeira Parada do Orgulho LGBT+ em 1970 em Nova York. O objetivo da Parada é dar mais visibilidade à comunidade LGBT+, reivindicar direitos e políticas públicas. A Parada do Orgulho LGBT+ de São Paulo é a maior do mundo, com cerca de 3 milhões de pessoas. On June 28th, after yet another violent raid, the community fought back — starting the Stonewall Uprising, a milestone that sparked the first Pride Parade in 1970. Since then, Pride events around the world continue to honor the fight for visibility, rights, and equality.
