HOW TO WRITE A REQUEST: maybe follow the who, what, when, where, why format. It tends to catch most things. Note on Summer 2026 - It is a little tough to predict if I will be reliably hosting if you request too far out. Please detail info on your visit. A STRONG warning that I cannot host to provide sleeping area if you are absent the entire time aside from sleeping! CS is an ethos with varying levels of interaction so there are no expectations aside from sharing our lives and some stories at periodic intervals. Please no drug issues! Reach out to me for assist in addition, food, or housing needs due to instability. I am rarely able to provide more than 2-3 days of hosting and you must have a plan for moving on unless we arrange an alternate plan between each other. Longer stays happen often but I typically cannot arrange these until I know if we harmonize. I am highly involved in various global direct political actions with shifting timelines and cancellation is possible as these are high priority at this time, but I will take care of you if a request is granted. It is recommended to not surf with me if you will be offended by artwork and discussions on liberation of oppressed groups around the world. I cannot host May 10 to May 31. CURRENT MISSION Infusions of kindness, thoughtfulness, and critical thinking. Pursuing enlightenment. Engaging the mind. Unleashing the soul. ABOUT ME Hi. My name is Ben. My favorite color is blue. I work with computers and cameras and I dabble in gardening, cycling, snowboarding, and a great deal else. I am a CIO at a local IT services firm. It keeps me busy, and somewhat insane. I always dislike having to condense my entire life into small text boxes, it's quite difficult to sum up everything into here, and please also forgive the overuse of I, me, and my. The self/ego/consciousness are so woefully isolated from others; it's a goal of mine to be as empathetic as possible and step out of the box often. I am open-minded and accepting of all surfers or hosts without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, ancestry, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, sexual orientation, genetic characteristics, registered domestic partner status, medical condition, or gender identity. I provide safe space to my trans, non-binary and intersex siblings. Any status you have in regards to being in this 'country' is irrelevant and need not be disclosed. Not a fan of labels, however some fundamental truths are: cismale/he/him, 90% gay, 10% other, 117% awesome. Anti-fascist and anti-capitalist. PHILOSOPHY You can't ever be too mad. Try and dance the line between sane and insane, it's the perfect place to be. I was recently in Belgium and did not realize how obsessed they are with Smurfs, and now I want to call Couchsurfing Couchsmurfing by hiding smurf figurines in the couch. ALERT! I do have an exterior camera system for security. Also one camera in the basement monitoring IT infrastructure.
CURRENT MISSION Constant Discovery ABOUT ME I used to host, but I now live in my van and unfortunately don’t have much room for guests. Currently traveling the world. I like to take people to my favorite places - Coffee shops, poetry readings, hiking, knowledge-based discussions, farmers markets, breweries, climbing areas, etc. I like cooking, music, activity, and trying new things. Active hobbies include hiking, camping, skydiving, sport climbing, dirtbiking, scuba diving, travel, and trying new foods! PHILOSOPHY We are one species with many variations. Let's share our visions with each other.
***UPDATE JULY 2024*** I’m open to hosting most days of the week. I may not always be able to accommodate last minute requests, but feel free to message me and we can always try to work something out! Schedule to be updated regularly. 🙂 Hey there! I’m Brandon, an registered nurse living here in Astoria, Oregon. 👨🏻⚕️ I have a never ending love for traveling, meeting new people and living in the moment. “Travel while you’re young and able. Experiences are worth far more than money ever will be.” I live in my tiny home (a converted shuttle bus), and love having friends over along with cool, trustworthy people looking for a place to stay here in picturesque Astoria. I’ve surfed abroad as a young naïve soul in search of adventure; now I’m trying to give back to others by offering the same 🙂 Worth reiterating that my tiny home is a shuttle bus, so space and amenities are a bit limited (I’m unable to offer a shower at this time, but my gym offers guest passes if needed). There is some access to a kitchen, bathroom, etc. if needed though. The ideal surfer would: -have some Couchsurfing history/reviews. - be someone who’s friendly and outgoing. - be okay with sleeping on a pull-out mattress from an actual couch (Couchsurfing at its finest!) I have my own separate bed in my bedroom.

I majored in English Education in college and got certified to teach literature to high school-aged kids. I've taught students in Japan and the Americas. I enjoy human-powered travel. I cycled from New Jersey to Argentina, I spent five months hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in the U.S., and my wife and I spent three months bicycling in southern India. We live and work in Astoria, Oregon. I'm a high school English teacher; she runs a letterpress printing business called Taiga Press. This proverb resonates with me and sums up one of the key reasons I love to travel: "I cried about having no shoes, until I met a man with no feet."
I live in a small town near the Oregon Coast, where I work in community radio. Outside of work, I love to play with different art and craft mediums, and lately have been growing my first dye garden to make pigments for fiber arts and painting projects. When I travel, I love to wander interesting neighborhoods to see the local architecture, stop at all the coffeeshops, and eat as locally and seasonally as possible. I'm pretty quiet and introverted, but love meeting new people!
Currently we are hosting a Mongolian exchange student for the year which prevents us from hosting couchsurfers. We will be hosting again at the end of June. *****Please note, because of Wilco, we do not allow guests to be in the home when we're not home.***** Joe and I enjoy creating music, cuddling our animals, arcades, antiquing, and gardening. Margaret spends a lot if time writing letters and listening to books on tape. Margaret works in the school and with adults living with developmental disabilities and Joe is a tugboat engineer. We have a 7 year old dog, Wilco; a 14 year old cat, Eli; a 8 year old cat, Porter; and our 2 year old baby girl kitten, Bertie. More on Wilco on the next page. Be sure to acknowledge that you read it. We live a 20 minute walk from downtown and also have a bus stop near us. We don't accept a lot of surfers, but you can bet that the ones we do take in took their time on a clear couch request. We take in travelers who are passing through and need a spot for the night, sometimes two, before they move on to another town. We've got a soft spot for cyclists.
