CURRENT MISSION To meet new and old friends all over the globe. To obtain a meaningful experience that culminates in personal growth. To learn about the various customs and experiences of my brothers and sisters around the world. ABOUT ME I am an NYC public school teacher. I teach science and special education. I am a native New Yorker raised in Harlem but spent a big part of my fundamental years in suburban St. Paul, Minnesota. Today I live in the Yankee Stadium neighborhood in the South Bronx with my spouse and a roommate plus two cats. I consider myself an open-minded artist with a very, very liberal political view. I like an intellectual conversation but I also like to joke around (I have a sarcastic sense of humor). If you don't like animals: I don't think we'll get along. I have a good sense of compassion/empathy for communicating and relating to human situations. I am interested in community building, especially creating green spaces that are accessible, sustainable, and positively impactful to the greater community. The main reason I became a public school teacher. I studied Geography and Fine Arts and I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in Education. I believe myself to be mostly a conscious, non-conventional (quirky), and minimally pretentious person. I like to make connections whenever possible and reach out to people worldwide. I am addicted to travel. Most who know me know that I am continuously trying to escape NYC's hectic living for an adventure somewhere around the world. PHILOSOPHY -Life's too short to think long about doing, just do it. -No mariner becomes a good sailor in calm waters. -There are three types of people: 1. People who make things happen 2. People who watch things happen and 3. People who say, "What the hell just happened?" -Whatever happens, will happen! -If you hate something, don't you do it too!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING I participate in the CS Project by being a local link to visitors. In my encounters worldwide, I want to show NY friendliness, understanding, and compassion. I want visitors to leave NY feeling like they have a good knowledge of NYC beyond the typical tourist highlights. COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE I have had sweet cross-cultural encounters during all my stays. All have been great experiences and I hope to have many more.

Can't narrow it down, here are some: - Hiking amongst the ancient cedars of Yakushima National Park, Japan, -Swimming freely under a full moon in a bioluminescent lagoon in Vieques, Puerto Rico -Laying on the open country under a meteor shower with the edge of the Milky Way as a backdrop in Jujuy, Argentina. - Overnight snowfall in the Grand Canyon, Arizona, - Walking underneath and amongst the giant Redwood trees of Northern California, -spending time with the most northern colony of King Penguins at Volunteer Point in the Falkland Islands, - Boat paddling around the straw floating islands of Lake Titicaca, Bolivia/Peru -Being chased by a Kangaroo in Philip Island, Australia -Spending time with a colony of 250 pairs of King penguins in Volunteer Point, Falkland Islands (Isla Malvinas) -First scuba dive in the coral reefs of Roatan, Honduras -Admiring in awe the crater drop into the Aegean sea at Santorini, Greece -Sailing through glaciers alongside dolphins in the Magellan strait Argentina/Chile -Eating the most decadent breakfast with a view of the sun glistening on the Bosphorus strait in Istanbul, Turkey -Swimming amongst penguins and sea lions in the waters of Isabela, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador -Going to Pearl Jam concerts everywhere!

I want to learn from the good. I want to continue to work on humility and modesty but above all promote compassion and love. I realize we cannot help anyone/anything that doesn't want/need help. The only virtues that I can continue to encourage is compassion, putting yourself in other people's shoes and envision different perspectives. I live by the saying "If you hate something, don't you do it too! " -EV
