Hey there fellow CouchSurfer! I'm in the Hilo area working for the year, and am so loving it here. I have both hosted and surfed in the past (see reviews), and enjoyed making connections with people from different corners of the world. I love swapping stories and sharing my space, and am often up for a post-work hangout at the beach with some cold drinks, and hiking on the weekends. I've only been on the Big Island since July, so my local know-how is limited, but happy to share what information I can! If you're needing a place to stay that is close to Hawaii Volcanoes NP and the Hilo area, send me a message and tell me a little about yourself. Thanks for reading! - Maya

Perché sono su Couchsurfing
I couch surfed a good bit when I was traveling around Europe, and I had some awesome experiences with my hosts. I think it offers an authentic introduction to a new place. Thought it was about time I repaid the favor.
Musica, film e libri
Some of the books I've enjoyed lately: - Tracks - The Body Keeps the Score - The Tao of Pooh - East of Eden - Poems by Rudy Francisco and Mary Oliver Current music tastes: - Caamp - The Brook and the Bluff - Maggie Rogers - Doja Cat - Penny and Sparrow - Lana Del Rey - Mt. Joy
Una cosa straordinaria che ho fatto
One time I chased a black bear through the woods in my flip flops (true story).
Cosa posso offrire agli host
I live in a studio, so willingness to share space is a must. I have a fold-out couch for you, and pillows/sheets.
I miei interessi
I worked for the National Park Service (NPS) for several years and absolutely loved it. The community, wilderness areas, epic flora and fauna, and opportunity to connect with nature and people was an unforgettable few years. Now, my career has shifted gears, but the passion for outdoor spaces and hiking/backpacking has stuck. I enjoy spending time by myself and can be completely content doing so, but I also realize that the most impactful moments come from sharing experiences with other people. Late-night talks about psychology, existentialism, and random funny stories are favorites of mine (forgive my goofy sense of humor and dad jokes). I also love having watercolor art nights! What about you?
