Hosts in Hokkaido
CURRENT MISSION Stay alive ! ABOUT US We started couchsurfing from 2007. We hosted a lot of friends in Edinburgh, California and Japan, and we get married and have a kid. Now we 3 re-started the trip to meet the world. Shigeto the dad is a researcher in the university, Aloe is the mom, Rina is 10 years old. We have 5 cats, living in Hokkaido, Japan. Far away from everything, great retreat for summer, nice ski chances in the winter. We are easygoing and friendly family, we mostly cook humble food at home and you are welcome to join. We can provide a semi-private room, in east Hokkaido. We also have a second house in Osaka ready for use. Always happy to meet up anywhere. You can skip the introduction if it is too long.... About Aloe the mom : My cat Pepe passed away in may 2026, She taught me so much about life. I live onward with the courage she showed to me. I am also beginning to explore the world of vegetarian. About Rina the 10 yrs, An absolutely foodie, sees through the essence of everything. A funny little girl who always has her insists. About Shigeto the dad, Sweet boy, foodie and funny. He is always very happy and you can trust him when talking about physics. About our cats, Long hair family, gentle and humble, gave up on warning human beings.
ABOUT ME I LOVE to travel. That is my sole objective in life - to travel, to mingle, to meet people and be lost in wilderness. Where and when I can not make it to a place in real, I spend days reading about it and planning trips and imagining about it. PHILOSOPHY Independence & Curiosity. Break the world down into friends - one stranger at a time. Live life like there is no tomorrow, but don't forget there probably will be one. And it maybe a rainy day then. :)
I'm not renewing my CS membership because I think hosts shouldn't have to pay. I've built my own hosting platform called Hearthsurf and it can be found on my social network at Xcrol - if you want to stay at my houses, that's the place to find me and request. I’m a novelist who writes about utopias and dystopias — worlds where humanity gets it beautifully right, and worlds where we get it heartbreakingly wrong. California boy, raised with the sugar of Hawaii in my veins, I now own a little house in Otaru, Japan, and I’m chasing the full Japanese expat dream with wide-open arms and an even wider heart. I’m a creative to my core — words, music, art, ideas — it all flows through me like second nature. What I love most? Gathering with interesting, passionate people. Long dinners that turn into laughter-filled nights, deep conversations over coffee, spontaneous drinks that spark new dreams. Especially with fellow creatives — painters, writers, musicians, thinkers. There’s something magical about two creative souls connecting in real life. If you have fire in your spirit, stories in your eyes, and a hunger for beauty, connection, and a little adventure… I’d really love to meet you. Whether it’s sharing a quiet moment in Otaru, exploring a new city together, or just exchanging ideas across the world — my door (and my inbox) is open.
