Do you recommnend to travel to chiang mai from 3rd till 10th of march 2020 or due to farmer fires visit somewhere else?

Hi everyone. We are supposed to visit chiang mai for a week in the begiinning of March but we found out that farmers fires make the environment very unpleasant. Would you recommned to keep the planning the same and visit chiang mai or maybe change it and visit somewhere else? It would be very helpfull to get some feedback from people living there! Thanks and regards from Belgium!

Hi Vasi, The smoke is a recurring problem in Chiang Mai. I've lived here for 8 years and while the smoke this year is not the worst it's ever been, it's still pretty bad. If either of you has breathing issues or asthma, I'd recommend avoiding the city and all of northern Thailand.

Burning the fields is a very troubling habit and one that has been practiced for a long time. It doesn't bother me too much but some people suffer greatly from it. That said, it's probably not going to do any permanent damage if you're here for only a week. It's your call.

for me the pollution situation still bad here. If you can change plan maybe the south of Thailand might be better.

Thanks guys, much appreciated your respones. Indeed we changed plans and heading south to enjoy the beach :-) chiang mai will be another time!

It’s true, the smoke here is quite bad, I tend to stay in a lot right now but many are complaining. If you have any kind of breathing issues you should stay away
