The Natchez Trace is a nice drive and has access to some trails and interesting spots.
Hey Sara, Radnor Lake is great if you just want scenery. It can get really busy on weekends though if the weather is nice.
Rock Island State Park is about 1-2 hours away, but is one of my favorite places to hike in Tennessee. There are beautiful waterfalls, and there is even a spot to cliff jump if you are into that.
Go to the Loveless and out Highway 100 or turn right on McCrory Lane. Go to Leiper's Fork. Plenty of beautiful country roads in all of these areas! Out Highway 96 near the Natchez Trace -- hunt down the Fernvale area.
All great replies. On the other side of the county, Bicentennial Trail in Ashland City is nice and you can often catch views of eagles. Nice flat, wide trails with gentle hills because the trail used to be a railway bed. Great for biking or walking. If you take it all the way to the dam, it is about 8 miles each way. It's an easy place to walk/run/bike during the height of tick season and stay out of the ticks and has a great display of wildflowers. Safe, too. (Don't leave tempting valuables in your car anywhere that you go for these activities, though.)
There are some cool trails you can walk or cycle at Shelby Park. Also, I've heard of some cool waterfalls / water holes maybe 45 minutes to an hour outside of Nashville although I've never been.
I just went biking with some friends at Montgomery Bell park off highway 40. Awesome bike trails and hiking trails. It's about 30 min west of Nashville and if you take Hwy 70 to get there, you'll get those windy back roads you were talking about.
There are tons and tons of beautiful trails between here and Chattanooga. Hour and a half ish. Camping, backpacking and all kinds of other outdoor stuff. I go backpacking a lot, you or anyone else is welcome to come
I know of some cool spots outside Franklin, murpheesboro, and natchez trace. Problem is I do not have a car. I'll be in town tonight at 6:30. Message me if you're still looking to see the area.
