All depends on what you like but a good overall look at what is going on while you're in town would be the Calendar section of orlandoweekly.com
Thanks a lot, it will definitely help us to know what kind of activities we can enjoy while being there :)
Gatorland, park ave. (in winter park), Lake Eola (downtown orlando), international drive strip, fireworks at 9pm in Disney's boardwalk hotel (free), etc...
Hi Jon, thanks a lot. I think Lake Eola sounds perfect. :)
Although it's a little further from Orlando, I really enjoy Kennedy Space Center and Cocoa Beach. If you want to stay in the Orlando vicinity, without doing theme parks, I would suggest perhaps walking around International Drive. There is lots to do in that area. City Walk is also fun and although it's on the Universal property, it is free to get into. I think you might have to pay for parking though is all. Downtown Disney is nice to walk around as well. Not sure what you're into but, hope this helps!
Hi Joseph, thank you! We are definitely going to Kennedy Space Center, we already booked a day only for that visit. As you suggest we want to stay in the Orlando vicinity, because next year we'll go again but it will be all Universal Studios, J Bird mentioned the International Drive and I think will be a great idea too. Thanks again :)
There's so much to do! Kayaking in Wekiva State Park, West Orange Trail for biking, Downtown Winter Garden and the Crooked Can Brewery in Winter Garden, watch Disneys Fireworks from the Reams Road employee entrance and parking lot (free), Learn to wakeboard at Orlando Water Sports Complex, I know it's a theme park but Animal Kingdom is really cool. What do you enjoy?
Hi Karan, Kayaking sounds fun, my boyfriend loves biking so that will be fun for him. In this visit we don't want to go to theme parks because we're traveling again next year only for that purpose, we want this time to walk around the city and the activities that might be going on. We're up to anything, we're not very picky and are open to any suggestions :)
If you go to Wekiva be sure to check out "Wekiva Island" for music and drinks on the river. It's a good local hangout. Also, there is another park called "Kelly Park" (in Apopka) that has a natural lazy river. You can float down it to a swimming hole. Just past that is a place to rent canoes called "kings landing" you can take a canoe from there down the river for a couple hours and end up at "Wekiva Springs" or "Wekiva Island." IF I was looking for some nature around Orlando that's what I'd do.
Hi Andrew, thank you very much, that sounds fun, I love nature, music and drinks on the river? doesn't get any better than that. :)
Hello everyone,
Again, thank you all for your suggestions and advises, I think we might just add a day or two to our visit to Orlando. :) We'll be staying in Lake Worth from July 2nd until July 9th, between those date we'll be visiting Orlando and visiting my brother and sister in law who live in West Palm Beach, and will love to meet locals so if any of you will be available for our visit to Orlando, we'll be happy to meet you.
Kind regards,
Stephanie
