What is the closer city on the border of Costa Rica -Nicaragua?

Hi everybody:

I would like to visit Nicaragua this weekend 5 o 6 to 7-8.

I am living in San Ramon de Alajuela and I am looking for a ride to go to Nicaragua. Or which bus I can take from San Jose?

I am not sure , what can I find in Nicaragua close to the border. What are the name of the city close to Costa Rica-Nicaragua, and what I can find there. If somebody can solve me my question, I will be very thansfull.

Also I am looking for somebody who kindly can host me for the weekend in a city close to Nicaragua.

En Nicaragua, el destino turístico más cercano a la frontera con Costa Rica es el departamento de Rivas. De allí, puede ir a la isla de Ometepe. Pero también hay otros destinos en Rivas.

Last year I went to Nicaragua. I took a Tracopa bus (I think) at the SJ's terminal that left around 3 am. The 2 way ticket was 30 mil colones. We got off the bus at Rivas around 10 am. We didnt stay in Rivas, but went to another town close by in a taxi where there was a port where a ferry leaves every hour( i think) to the Ometepe Island in Nicaragua's lake. I can't remember the name of the town. We returned that same day in the afternoon to Rivas and took a bus this time to go to San Juan del Sur, the beach town thats is about a 1 hour away from Rivas. It is very pretty, not too hot, there are places to eat and things to see. There is a pub crawl activity called "Sunday Funday" that is very popular for young tourist. You should do it!

I think the best transport is Ticabus. The price is $58 go-back. Add $8 tax in CR add $14 entry Nicaragua and Nicaragua to CR add $4

Thanks everybody for you reply, if somebody have the same way, my travel was the follow:

First San Jose - Liberia. I travel for a agency call Pulpita o something like that for 8 dollars. And next day Liberia - Peñas Blancas by intermunicipal buses 1,5 dollars.

For me was mandatory show the certificated of [Fiebre Amarilla[ Vaciencie in Nicaragua, if you don't have it , you can get a deprotation to your original country, it is mandatory for all south america countries.
