Let's escape the heat of the city for the prolonged 1st of August weekend! 1st of August is a National holiday in Switzerland, so you don't need to take many days off for an entire week in the mountains :) ---Original event--- Here is the original event on Couchsurfing: https://www.couchsurfing.com/events/switzerland-friends-and-mountains-camp This one here is just a copy to locate it around Zurich, too. You can also find more information and registration on the website here: www.friends-and-mountains.ch ---Copy content--- We have done this event format already quite some times in the past, check the website to know more about it! But basically, we gather a bunch of couchsurfers and internationals and spend a good time in the Swiss mountains. A bit like a couch crash - but accomodation and basic food is taken care of, and as we are living all in the same house, it's even easier to have a group feeling and get to know new people. This event is completely non-commercial and based on volunteering. If there is more budget left in the end, we will spend it for some more surprises for the group. But important: This is an event that requires a bit more planning like reservation of the hut and food purchasing. Registration in advance is mandatory! This is a really good deal for exploring the Swiss alps, because we can share this group accomodation together. Now let's get to the more advanced infos: Our house for this event is located in Bergün, just a couple of minutes next to the train station: The ideal base for hiking and other excursions around Graubünden. Bergün is a small mountain village in the canton of Graubünden, located along the Albula Pass. It sits at around 1,400 meters above sea level and is known for its traditional Engadine-style houses and close ties to the UNESCO-listed Albula Railway. The village is quiet and authentic, with a year-round population that gives it a lived-in feel rather than a touristy atmosphere. In summer, Bergün becomes a good base for exploring the surrounding valleys and mountains. The Albula Railway Museum is worth a visit, especially for those interested in trains and the history of the Rhaetian Railway. The old pass road, which is closed to cars during parts of the summer, is popular for cycling or longboard rides downhill. There is no fixed plan for the day activities, but many ideas. We can choose according to the weather and also make smaller groups to go for different activities. In the evening we meet again at the house to share our memories of the day. The event is usually quite self-organized by the way. You help with everything: Cooking, cleaning and proposing things to do. The basic logistics like organizing the house and doing the food shopping are organized by Mikka, and the rest usually goes quite well. Indro is enthusiastic about Board Games and will bring some Zurich Fun Gamers games selection to the event.
