CURRENT MISSION Living the abundant life to the full. Appreciating the little things in life that we normally take for granted, like good food and wine, nature, technology, people, love, music, birds, the sound of silence, and the list goes on..... ABOUT ME Friendly, fun, adventurous. PHILOSOPHY Living the abundant life that I received.
Update: I now live just outside of Cape Town, in a small town called Fish Hoek. Fish Hoek is a sleepy little village on the False Bay coast, about 40 minutes drive from the city center, so please don't ask me to meet for a quick coffee in Cape Town, it's quite a drive for me. If you are headed to the False Bay area (Muizenberg, Simon's Town, Boulders Beach (the penguins) or Cape Point then send me a message and check if I'm available to meet up. Lately I'm getting into snorkelling, and I have a spare mask and snorkel, so if you'd like to see some sharks (small) or starfish let me know. If you are browsing my profile wondering if I will host you, then I might, so send me a request. I prefer selecting my guests from the travelers list, but sometimes the most interesting experiences in life are the ones you least expect. I only follow two rules, the first is that your Response Rate needs to be at least 50%, if it's lower then I will politely decline. The second is that you have a real name on your profile, anything that is obviously not your real name and I will decline. I am quiet, open minded and friendly. I'm always looking for something new to learn or do. The golden rule in my home: - Respect and tolerance for everyone. In my home you are free to be yourself, who ever you are and where ever you fit in the diverse spectrum of humanity. My favourite quote: "Everyone has inherent dignity and the right to have their dignity respected and protected." - http://www.gov.za/documents/constitution/chapter-2-bill-rights#10 Paragraph 9 is pretty cool too.... http://www.gov.za/documents/constitution/chapter-2-bill-rights#9
Hi there! My name is Jarryn, and I'm a consultant and social impact designer in the not-for-profit sector. I work in the fields of education, human rights, behavioural change communications and social innovation. I'd like to think I'm a nice guy, with a wicked sense of humour and a love for culture, art and history. Just so that you know, my house is a safe space - people of all religions, ethnic groups, socio-economic backgrounds, gender identities and sexual orientations are welcome :-) I look forward to meeting you all! I prefer to host surfers for skills exchange, so please feel free to read the 'Teach/Learn/Share' paragraph or the 'What I can offer' paragraph below for ideas. I get tons of requests, so a thoughtless or hurried request or one without any mention of why you think couchsurfing at my place specifically might be a great fit for you are unlikely to be successful. I would also prefer that my guests are reliable, punctual, neat, friendly, open-minded, organised and willing to hang out - hosting is an enormous priviledge, but also hard work, and I think setting the right expectations is key to creating a mutually satisfying experience. Please also read further in my 'About My Home' section before making a request.
I am a sixty something year old retired professional - an ordinary guy in the best years of my life - living a full life but also making time to travel and have some fun along the way. I have a restless soul and an adventurous streak and have lived and worked in a number of countries in Asia, Europe, West Africa and South America. I have many and different interests and have been told I am fun to be with. I also have an off-beat sense of humour, am somewhat eccentric, smile easily and laugh often and never take myself too seriously. Meeting people, making new friends and visiting off-the-beaten track destinations are some of the things I enjoy during my travels. And yes, visiting local markets and trying out local food is never an option but a firm routine.

Hi Everyone! I'm a 24 year old South African who's just started out his career as a Librarian. I'm brand new to the whole Couch Surfing Community and have been interested in it for a while; just always been hesitant about staying with strangers. I'm a friendly, open-minded and liberal person who values Trust, Communication and Respect. Some of my favourite things to do are Swim, Go for Walks (in nature especially!), Drink Coffee, Watch Films and do all of these with mates! If you ever find yourself in Cape Town, I'd be lovely to share all of these with you :)
CURRENT MISSION To explore, wander, live and learn. ABOUT ME A curious, restless and wandering soul. Love being immersed in new experiences but have developed a particular affinity for the strange, esoteric, unconventional and peculiar. Don't care much for sport, tv, authority and institution. Love nature and find life (in all its complex forms) very intriguing. Have learnt to appreciate the journey, and become less reliant on the destination. I don't know why I'm here or how I got here, but I'm enjoying finding out. PHILOSOPHY Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin can openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance. Choose fixed-interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life . . . ~ Trainspotting
I’m a South African travel enthusiast and creative working in the interior architecture space, with a deep love for art, design, and exploring the world. I'm currently living in KENYA, and have been part of the Couchsurfing community for over 10 years, and it has completely shaped my outlook on life — broadening my horizons, challenging my thinking, and connecting me with an incredible global network. I’m drawn to immersive travel: discovering new places, learning from different cultures, and experiencing life through the eyes of locals. These experiences have deeply influenced who I am today, and I’m truly grateful for the memories and connections Couchsurfing has made possible. Always excited for the next destination and the stories still to come.
A typical South African who loves the outdoors and cooking meat over a fire. I'm a mobile app developer working remotely. I want to travel as much as I can and meet interesting people around the world, learn their culture and history as it tells us a lot about how they think, cook and compose.
