NOT HOSTING CURRENTLY I'm an easy-going, outdoorsy guy who enjoys meeting new people from all walks of life and sharing good conversation. Passionate about traveling and captivated by the beauty and diversity of the world.
I love connecting with vibrant, friendly, open-minded, super cool humans in the Couchsurfing community. If you read my profile and think we’d get along... let’s meet. I'm a lifelong learner and playful polymath: endlessly curious about a wide variety of subjects. I love sharing connected conversations while hiking, and vibe best with growth-oriented people who are authentic, self-aware, and kind. I have a strong enthusiasm for life and a deep appreciation for the natural world. Things that inspire me: conscious and compassionate communication, authenticity, quality and depth of connection, birds, trees, and fungi, human relationship dynamics, homesteading and food forest projects, produce and pollinator gardens, community gardening, permaculture, herbalism, seed stewardship, indigenous history and wisdom, mycology, ecology, medicinal plants, wild food foraging, dance, improv theater, reading, writing, poetry, minimalism, home organizing, music, photography, puns. I traveled solo and lived semi-nomadically for nearly 10 years, primarily living on islands and in small, semi-rural, progressive towns with year-round growing seasons around the Pacific Rim.
CURRENT MISSION Be love ABOUT ME I believe peace is possible. I love fresh food, warm people, transparency, silliness, sunshine, and admire anyone who trusts humanity. I love to travel, meet new people, adventure, and be bold. I am an avid yogi, kiteboarder, sailor, cook, baker, adventuress, and am told I am engaging and entertaining. I have begun a solid meditaiton practice for the first time in my life in 2017 and I'm so thrilled about it. PHILOSOPHY I believe that small acts of kindness transform the world and that I am here to love everything and everyone I meet. I love my life. I mean, really dig it. I have a life that is overwhelmingly amazing.
“The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what you share with someone else when you're uncool”

Pandemic update: We're both fully vaccinated. We both got boosted most recently in Fall 2025. Friend me on Facebook to follow my travels: stevelhomer Emily and I especially enjoy hosting international travelers. We don't host fellow Americans as often, so if you are an American sending us a couch request, tell us why you would be an interesting guest. In your couch request, please show that you read our "My Home" page. For 11 years up to 2018, I (Steve) volunteered each year with FOMMA, a Mayan women's theater collective in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas state, Mexico, where I taught English, photography, and computer literacy. Prior to that, I taught photography workshops for Mayan photographers in Chiapas. I spent 2 months volunteering as a public high school English teacher in Colombia in 2014, and I taught a short two-week conversational English class for public middle school teachers in Tabasco, Mexico, in 2017. I am a recently retired technical writer who worked mostly in the semiconductor industry. Now I have more time for reading, photography, and travel (75 countries so far). I have been photographing people (portraits and figures), cemeteries, and ruined buildings for over 30 years. After using black-and-white infrared film for many years, now I work with digital cameras modified to take infrared photos. I have exhibited my photos in California, Oregon, North Carolina, and Chiapas. Emily is passionate about disability rights, books, and her garden. She doesn't enjoy traveling as much as Steve does, but she does enjoy meeting travelers. We moved to Asheville in 2016, so we're still learning a lot about this region from our couch surfers! Before that, we lived in Santa Cruz, CA for many years. We've both lived in San Francisco, among other places. Our recent travel together: Spain, Portugal (2017); Wales, England, Spain (2024) Steve's recent solo travel: Turkey, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon (2018); Lao, Cambodia, southern and central Vietnam (2019); Northern Vietnam (2020); Yucatan, Mexico (Spring 2021); Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania, Greece (Summer 2021); Puerto Rico (Winter 2022); Bosnia, Montenegro, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Finland (Summer 2022); Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Cambodia (early 2023); Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Poland, and Ukraine (Fall 2023); Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Panama (Winter 2003) Morocco, Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia, Romania, Greece, Turkey (Spring 2024) Vietnam, Taiwan (2024-2025) Canada (4-day train from Toronto to Vancouver, Spring 2025) Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, Germany, Belgium (Summer 2025) St. Maarten, Barbados, St. Lucia, St.Kitts (Fall 2025)

It won't let me upload anymore photos!!
CURRENT MISSION ABOUT ME May 2026: I am living nomadically these days but spend 6 months of the year working seasonally in Zakynthos, Greece. I work on the quiet & more pristine northeast side. *Reach out to me if you want to possibly meet up. I only have a car sometimes and my free days are Saturday evenings and Sunday day. I also usually have a break in my schedule from late morning to early afternoon. I'm a very laid back guy born and raised in Santa Monica. My name is super French, Jean-Michel(not ending in lle) but I speak english like an american. So I won't sound like, "I sink zis, i sink zat". One of these days I will learn. In the last few years I have done some traveling off and on. Lived in Honolulu, lived in NYC for over half a year. After just living in Manhattan Beach, CA for 2 years and Kailua, HI, Asheville, NC and now Greece and Europe. * I'm also one of the Producers from the 2012 released Couchsurfing related documentary "One Couch at a Time”Watch it here with the link below. A complete DIY project done mostly by members of the CS network. https://vimeo.com/ondemand/onecouch PHILOSOPHY To not live it like many other people who are overworked, and don't realize they're more important things in life such as friendships, family(if you like yours) and having memories and experiences.
CURRENT MISSION I seek healthy relationships with people who are committed to social and environmental justice. I seek meeting/collaborating with others who are dedicated to making this world better for humans and the more than humans. ABOUT ME I spend a lot of time trying to make my life and home more ecologically sustainable. I help my community by getting to know my neighbors and being active in community politics and events, I grow edible trees/plants so others can afford them because food should grow everywhere and be free. I love learning about ecology and am pretty good plant and mushroom identification. This is important if you want to eat them and sharing the knowledge. I love music and group singing and usually spend my vacations in workshops focused on singing and developing our voices. I Love African drumming and dancing. I make a living by landscaping and caring for children, sometimes construction and odd jobs. I am trained in bodywork and enjoy learning about how to release pain - emotional and physical. I care a lot about the planet and finding ways to create resilience during our current ecological collapse. I've spent time at ecovillages and continue to learn about how to create sustainable, long-lasting social structures. My philosophy is to be kind and integral, and if at all possible, funny
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I’ll add more eventually

Hello there, I’m Jonny! What a wild world this is, and to step foot out into it again is like taking a first breath. I'm somewhat new to couchsurfing, but I already love the community here and what it stands for. A little about me: I’m a musician (I play and teach classical violin, guitar, and piano). I’m also a songwriter and music producer! (if you want to hear any of my indie folk/pop tunes, here’s a spotify link: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1Uq2RXmIL2QYw9gCauj3dx?si=DnjIRZMhR_eWjWnKNi22Uw or just search Frail Jonny on any streaming service). Although most of my life is music-related, I also love modernist literature, 20th century philosophy, and film (I even got a master’s degree in the latter!) My home is now the open road, but I've lived in Rhode Island, Chicagoland, Toronto, and Asheville. Last year I made a hitchhiking trip that changed my life: up the east coast of the USA, across Europe from Amsterdam to Istanbul, and back again! I had never hitchhiked before, and it was one of the scariest and best things I've done in my life. But the most rewarding part of it was getting to meet new people, learn other perspectives, and see how different people view the world. I’m endlessly intrigued by what others make of this human situation, how they end up structuring their days and their lives. I want to witness more of that. Whether you’re a host or fellow traveler reading this, I hope we can connect along the way! Shoot me a message and I’ll be sure to respond. -Jonny
