Because it's a great way of meeting new people and experiencing (slightly, so far) different cultures, duh.

...as mentioned above - I'm willing to give anything a try; I may end up not liking it - but I can also discover a new favourite. And I love singing along with music, especially Queen, musicals and Disney sountracks - be warned :P Always hungry for new authors to try - recommendations are more than welcome (anything similar - or completely different :P - to Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Neil Gaiman, Oscar Wilde, Tove Jannson, Mikhail Bulgakov, Ernest Hemingway, Michael Chabon, Peter S. Beagle, Peter Milligan should be right up my alley)! The same foes for movies/tv series ;) - though I don't watch as much as I used to do, sadly...
