I think "What's your favorite kind of music?" is probably one of the hardest questions out there. Some of my all time favorites are HVOB, Modest Mouse, Christian Löffler, Hot Chip..you see really mixed up. If I am going out I definitely prefer good electronic music, if it's Deep House or rough Techno.
