To meet locals is always a way more honest experience than just talking to the waitress or anyone else working in the tourism-business. Especially if the trip is about climbing in the mountains, I really prefer to stay with a local, ideally someone who knows the mountains around the location. To keep it short, only locals can get you as close as possible to their culture and their City.
