Hi to everybody, my history is too complicate, but i will try to explain... I need to find my husband's grandfather's birth certificate in your city, for us travel to poland is complicate in this moment... In my country Venezuela the political situation is awful, please we need your help!!!!! Grandfather's name is Jesus Hilario Szwajcer Bovenstein and his date of birth was January 7, 1898...thanks a lot... A big hug for all of you.

I could try to ask if that's even possible without your presence because from what I've read a person asking for it must be a relative or have some legal interest in getting it. Also there is sth called stamp duty, which means there is a government payment for a copy of a birth certificate. The information is on the office page, but it doesn't have an english version (http://bip.lublin.eu/bip/um/index.php?t=200&id=50189).

I'll try to get some info as soon as I get back from a holiday trip, and in the meantime you could try calling Polish Embassy in your country, maybe they'll be able to give you some information about what would be needed to get the document if it's here.

Judging by the name, I guess the grandfather was of Jewish origin?

Many people who have Jewish ancestors come to Lublin to search for the family members traces. There is one cultural institution that is involved in the history of Lublin Jewish community - They have also an English version of the webpage: http://teatrnn.pl/en/
