Hi, I went to Cuba alone, it's probably one of the safest places I've ever been. They really protect the tourists since it's the main source of income. I think you should stay at least 2 weeks, preferably 3. Linda
I've been two weeks alone in Cuba, no problem. The good thing to do is to stay in home stay where there is other travelers. You have some young hostels in la Havana. Maybe you'll find traveler's friends! That's also good to share the price of the room!
Cuba is safe af, actually cubans are scared of policemen and prison so there is no agressions or stuff like that. About the accomodation, don't worry you can find plenty in every street (casa particular). But it's better if you share because you pay the room the same price if you are alone or 3 people. But there is a lot of french there so no worries again. Just it's better if you don't buy activities in the casa particulars but directly outside (same for laundry etc..)
Hi, Hahaha I may not be useful for your topic but since I want to make a road trip (Chile, Cuba and Argentina if possible)by end of the year. I would Iike to ask you if it's good for you to share your experience... Even now, about your preparation, the city you want visit,...
At least at least one month!!! More if you can because you'll get stuck dancing in la Havana o Trinidad o Santiago (a lot of people don't go there but it's the best city to dance salsa 😊) Have fun for all of us !!
Cuba is extremely safe and the Cubans are so helpful. I went as a solo female in 2015 for 11 days with www.cubagrouptour.com. The company creates custom tours for cheap through email correspondence. Or you can go on their standard tours. I spent first 3 days in Vinales during Carnival time which has the most beautiful beaches nearby, 3 days in Havana and 3 days in Trinidad. I am not French but met so many French people who I became friends with and met during my travels after Cuba. Each Cuban town has a "plaza" which is the square with entertainment every night. Since Vinales is the smallest and was my first stop it was easy to make friends in the plaza there over a few mojitos and salsa dancing. I ended up hitting the road with a big group of locals and foreigners from that plaza with whom I am still friends. Since it is so easy to make friends in Cuba I kind of regret having booked everything beforehand. 99% of young travelers I met there do not book accomodation. They just arrive in town and find a "casa particular" because there are so many. Since I booked early I was not in the same casa with my new friends most of the time. However, the tour company I used was super amazing and I used their guide in Vinales. In the other towns I was an independent traveler which was cool too. In total, I would have spent 2 more days in Havana and maybe visited Santiago for 3 days. So I guess that would make 18 days including the long travel hours you will spend on Cuba's transport system (I am talking about 9 hour bus rides here!!). It takes 2.5 hours Havana to Vinales, and around 9 hours Havana to Trinidad. If you do make friends there hiring a car would be awesome. Also buy a SIM card for your mobile as soon as you arrive and be prepared to have almost no internet connection. Bring little gifts like souvenirs from your country or some cheap clothes etc because you will meet so many helpful Cubans who are poor and they really appreciate it. At the end of the day this is the safest country for solo women in my opinion but don't be stupid. Of course, you should still be careful and don't trust every single person. The only time I was a bit scared was in the street in front of La Floridita in Havana which is a famous historical bar near the mojito musuem. There are some poor people living in the apartment block there and a couple came to ask me something and wanted me to follow them into a garage or a bar or something. They pretendes to nees help. Luckily my friend pulled me away. My instinct felt somethinf bad was going to happen. In fact, I saw them speak to more tourists after I left and on that same holiday I know 2 girls who got mugged. It is extremely rare for this to happen in Cuba but it can happen especially in Havana which is the capital city. So yeah in conclusion: it is safe but be careful anyway, and stay minimum 2 weeks. Good luck!
Hey. Your response was very nice, well detailed and spot on. Even me who forgot about this trip, you made me want to book one asap
I will never forget this trip. It was a dream from the age of 16 which I made reality 10 years later! It would be amazing to visit again. Viva Cuba!
