What to do in Den Haag (the local secrets :-) )
Hi, I will go to Den Haag in May to take some kitesurfing lessons. I will probably stay a week or so.
What else fun is there in Den Haag, excepts for kitesurfing?
I would appreciate local advice for non tourist stuff and Den Haags hidden secrets :-)
kind regards Terje (Norway)

Hi Terje,
There is lots to do in the Hague, though I can't say I know the best non-touristy secrets, but I can tell you some things here. To start, I recommend checking out http://denhaag.com/en/, there you will find all of the events and performances going on throughout the Hague. There's always something going on!
If you want to catch a drink, you'll find many places along the beach, but if you go to the city center the two main areas at The Plein (plein means public square in essence) and the Grote Markt. There are also alot of cool bars in the Noord Einde area.
Besides that, the Netherlands is a very museum and park dense country, and that counts for the Hague as well. Some of my favorites are the Escher Museum and the Mauritshuis. Movie theaters, of which there are three in the Hague, are generally in English with Dutch subtitles.
I hope that gives you enough to do for a week!
Cheers, and enjoy your time.
I myself LOVE the ooievaart (canal boat trips, also in English).. AND of course top attraction Panorama Mesdag- one of the few 360 degree paintings left in the world...
Hiddem gems re lunch (I'm veggie) josti tosti (mentally challenged peeps run this) de bakkerswinkel, baklust - fact .. Den haag is aiming to be fod capital of the NL and is really gunning for fantastic organic food. What to look put for is the beautiful art deco architecture.. and if you do ho to the cinema go to Pathe Buitenhof for the sheer beauty of that building.
V.I.P pizza is cheap and good quality
The Hague Bookstore for tours and great coffee on the Noordeinde street, and their neighbors, Lola Bikes & Coffee!
No fun in the Hague, we've got our government settled here :))
Let me show u around and change your mind!
The Dutch government is annoying indeed, but as a tourist, you don't need to bother about them.
I love to take my guests to De Haagse markt, especially to eat fish and buy fresh fruits.
But since May is still a whole ice age away, I'd say send some couch requests not earlier than 2 weeks before and you'll probably find a nice host. I have the impression The Hague is not as a nightmare as Amsterdam when it comes to finding a host.
Lot of stuff to do in The Hague
walking Clingendael - One of the oldest forest in the country, beautiful japanese & rose garden
walking from habour to kijkduin, nice duines and beach walk of 1,5 hours
fancy shopping and dining at "Hof-kwartier" (area around the Palace Noordeinde)
Museum Sculptures by the Sea,Gemeente museum (City Museum), or Maurtishuis
take the little ferry in the harbour on a nice day
go to the upcoming neighber hood of "Zeehelden-kwartier"
go canooing around The Hague (Vlietlanden, Stompwijk or Delftse Hout)
day trips:
visit the Biesbosch together with Kinderdijk windmiles (all by ferry form Rotterdam)

Museums: Escher museum, panorama Mesdag
Clubs: Pip, Millers, Havana, Hoop, Danzig... (depends on what type of music and crowds you like)
Restaurants: Little V, Full Moon dim sum, de Dagvisser, The penthouse (for the view, mostly!)
The parks, if the weather is nice
Scheveningen boardwalk (you can rent a longboard at Hart beach or Jorplace hostel) and the ferris wheel A little rough summary of things that are nice to see, but honestly I think your best bet is to hang out with some locals and let the wind take you! The Hague has very nice hidden corners that you will find by accident and fall in love with... It's hard to name them as the charm is in the serendipity :)
In museums, I would add Mauritshuis.
you really need to go have dinner in "de bok". its next to a really cool bar where you can pool and have so many different special beers. but entering de bok makes you feel like you are 100 years back in time. a lot of locals dont even know it :) (and food ia awesome and inexpensive) have fun!
guys, where to eat good food and cheap? )thank you!
thank you!
There is a fastfood chain called eazy, nice asian food in a box for the same price as mcdonalds
The famous Pier is also a nice place to go when you are on the beach. With all the new pop up stores and foodtrucks. Great pizza's at the Italian one! (don't know the name) And you can also bungeejump or take the zipline from it
De Haagse toren (ok ok really touristic..) but you can order a cocktail and have a great vieuw over the city for 5,- De Haagse markt is also nice to buy food/fruit Visit Clingendael a realy nice Japanese garden At PIP, Magistrat and Paard van Troje you have nice parties or concerts (depends on your taste of music ;-) ) And at Zwarte Pad you have full moon/ techno parties at Indigo or Whoosah beachclub
Enjoy your visit at the Hague!
