You can take a bus, from the center, right in front of the colorful letters that sayTOLUCA and next to the market. Take the red bus and ask him how to go to the Nevado jaja, I'm not from there but I went camping some weeks ago and I did it like this. After taking the red bus (like $10 pesos) is going to leave you in a road where you wait for big busses that leave you in front of the main entrance of Nevado ($30 pesos), then walk or hitchhike to the base where the quesadillas are. After you can walk or hitchhike again to the last place cars can go. And then walk :) refugee is like $150 pesos, camping in that zone $80 or you can go and camp where the forest start, this is the best place because is a little hotter (still freezing).
I’m from Toluca and I know It is a bit dangerous if a woman goes alone, they have even assaulted groups of travelers :(
Ups :/ when I went It felt super safe, actually, there was a girl going alone, meet her when I went out of the bus in the entrance of the park, from there we hitchhike together, meet some guys from Spain and camp near the refuge where the forest starts. Was a wonderful experience.
Hi Aurelija it’s not posible to take a bus from Toluca to the nevado, how many people goes with you? I mean the taxi could be expensive and dangerous if you goes alone
You could take taxi but it'd be very expensive... There also is a bus, but it it leaves you at the mountain's foot. Which means you will have to walk a dirt road of about 2 km just to get to the point where cars park , and people camp/eat. Once there, it takes around 2 hours walking to reach the craters. Alternatively, you could pay 50 pesos and be driven to the small shelter almost on top of the mountain. From there it's around 15 minutes walking Uphill to Humboldt's pass (the point where you can see both lakes)
An easier and more affordable way would be to contact me. I love visiting el nevado...I've been there more times than I can count and I usually take couchsurfers or other visitors. This saturday August 4th of August I'm taking a guy from El Salvador (if you are still around and would like to join us) I drive my car to a point only 20 mins walking from the craters. I also know the path to the eagle's peak (highest place on the mountain)
All I ask is for a tank of gasoline and all my time is yours. You can check my references and my sister's if you are interested. My sister's profile is Kerdur Perez
Hola, Hanz. También tengo interés de subir el nevado, pero lo quiero hacer desde faldas hasta la cumbre, Me puedes decir cuál es el autobús que me lleva hasta allá? Gracias
Also you can search events in facebook "tour nevado de toluca", some are from Mexico City to Nevado de Toluca, and there are also events for camping and look the stars :)
I think this is the best option for people who doesn’t live there :)
