Towards East consists of an exhibition of paintings followed by a conversation with the artist Francesca Biondi about her extraordinary overland journey through Asia. The goal of her journey was not the destination but the direction, which is the fascinating journey towards the east. The trip lasted about two years, from March 2018 until January 2020, and she had the opportunity to visit Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, India, Nepal, Pakistan.  The paintings show her artistic journey across Asia through portraits, made during her travel , and through illustrations of Marco Polo’s stories that link him to the present in order to capture the essence of cultural exchange and slow travel.
