Sobre

Gurambai or Rapid Creek is 1 of Darwins best kept secrets. And like many of the waterways in the Top End of the Northern Territory, crocodile awareness discourages (through safety and awareness) people from fully exploring what are sometimes crocodile free areas. And although it's impossible to say for sure or to be 100% certain there are no crocs( as they move around) there are sone areas where traditionally people (aboriginal and caucasians) have swum safely and unmolested for 100s of years. The upper portion of Gurambai or Rapid Creek is one such area where swimming and walking is relatively safe and historically people have used to cool off and still do so. I offer a chance for visitors to Darwin to experience the wonders of this amazing waterway with a very informal walk along its banks and for those wanting a swim and an experience in a natural environment that is as pretty and as scenic as that which they might find in a National park but only 20 mins from Darwin cbd. I offer this tour for Free or by Donation. I prefer if people ring 0416 665 475 and ask for Mr Earth to arrange a tour. Preferably I would expect people to meet me on the day and time agreed upon at the Rapid Creek shopping village ( #10 bus from Darwin ). People are asked to bring shoes, hat, water, sunscreen and bathers with towel (optional) for their own requirements and personal comfort and safety. Those wanting to take photos are encouraged to bring cameras etc as the area is beautiful and very scenic with bird, bat and butterflies possibly present during the walk as well as the lush nature of the flora present. Walks can be as short as an hour or as long as 2 hours depending on interest. Most of the walk is on sealed pathways or mown grass but for the longer tours, some bush walking might be involved. For those wanting to swim: the creek is seasonal and so therefore between December and July is the best times for doing so as the levels of water in the creek are sufficient enough for such activity.
