As of August 28, 2016: I am really interested in connecting with folks in Canada and Mexico. I love your countries! Also, I like hosting people and being hosted by people from around the world, too, so please request away! I currently run my own business: https://resilientheritage.org Here is my legacy profile: https://www.couchsurfing.com/users/794469/profile/legacy CURRENT MISSION Making it in the Windy City! - Helping host the 2018 DEMHIST conference in Chicago, a UNESCO conference for house museums (former houses that have become museums). ABOUT ME I recently discovered that life's too short to make every part of your life a statement. When I was younger I was super intense to the point of turning off light switches in public places, but that weighs you down. In a world where global climate change is the new reality we still need to pause and take stock of what is and appreciate the moment. I take aimless walks through neighborhoods and rarely make weekend plans. I shy away from conflict by saying what can be done instead of repeating common obstacles. I go on train trips, collect postcards, linger in historic downtowns, train stations and movie theaters to know what community once was and how we can bring the best of the past to today's world. I thoroughly enjoy transportation systems - including reading, taking pictures and experiencing (of) them! I also like playing with prepositions. >) I like to travel to new places and meet new people. As you can see by the maps below I have had the privilege and opportunity to travel to a number of cool places. Bikes, cameras and geography thrill me. I feel like these three things embody my passion for travel. I'm really into seeing how locals live where they live and meeting these locals in the act of being a local! PHILOSOPHY Unto whom much is given, much is expected.
ABOUT ME I’m a full-time nomad and I literally don’t live in one place, so I’m not available to host. IG: @theycallmewillyfog CURRENT MISSION Just walkin' the Earth like Caine in Kung Fu. Viajo por ir, no por llegar! PHILOSOPHY No sueñes tu vida, vive tus sueños!! We will never remember anything by sitting in one place waiting for the memories to come back to us of their own accord! Memories are scattered all over the world. We must travel if we want to find them and flush them from their hiding places! -Milan Kundera (The Book of Laughter and Forgetting)
Hi all, I'm Rul (and yes, it's as simple as pronouncing "rule" 😊). I grew up on a small island in the SEA region and made my way to the States! I currently work as an academic at a university in the great state of Texas. But when I'm not too busy with work, I'm usually off wandering as a solo traveler. Fun facts: I've visited 44 states and 18 countries so far. And yes, thick thighs do save lives – so don't skip leg day, haha jk! I'm a very active guy, so let's hit the gym or play any types of sports together! Besides the obvious ones, Hawaii and Alaska, what are the other remaining states that I have not been to? P̳h̳i̳l̳o̳s̳o̳p̳h̳y̳: Be kind. Be respectful . Be curious. Everyone’s carrying something you might not see, and taking a moment to understand them can open the door to connection, maybe even friendship. I know it can feel a little odd inviting someone new into your space, and that’s totally fair. But hey, I’m harmless, I promise ;) So let’s leave judgments at the door and give each other a chance. It’s amazing how much we can learn from someone once we start talking. Traveling and meeting new people is like unlocking little pieces of the world I didn’t even know existed. Every conversation teaches me something new, and it’s a reminder of how much there’s still to discover. C̳u̳r̳r̳e̳n̳t̳ ̳M̳i̳s̳s̳i̳o̳n̳: I'm looking to host more Couchsurfers and really soak up their life stories. I love diving into different cultures, hearing about the wild and incredible adventures people have had, and getting a glimpse of the world through their eyes. Every guest brings something unique, whether it's a new perspective, a funny experience, or just a good conversation. Hosting Couchsurfers isn't just about offering a place to crash, it's about connecting with people and learning from each other’s journeys.
Former full time nomad. Graduated to part time traveler with a greater appreciation for the spontaneous trip.

CURRENT MISSION: Connect with other good people, Read good books, and See the World in all its diversity and beauty. ABOUT ME “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” - Mark Twain After graduating from college in Colorado in 2007, I bought a one-way-ticket to Hawaii. I didn't know a single person there, I didn't have a job, and I didn't have a place to stay. I brought a tent to sleep in, clothes to wear, and my own two feet to get me where I wanted to go. "You have brains in your head, and feet in your shoes. You can go any direction you choose!" I got a job at vegan juice and smoothie bar, worked four days a week, and had the best time of my life. Hawaii has beautiful beaches, and beautiful people. It is everything it's cracked up to be, and more. Much, much more. In the last ten years, I have lived in 11 different cities in eight different states in five different time zones. I have attended nine different colleges, and had dozens of different jobs. I thrive on travel. There is no substitute for the insight, knowledge, and perspective gained from meeting a variety of people and experiencing different cultures. The song that best describes me and my worldview is "I Cannot Settle Down," by Peter Bradley Adams: "Somewhere in this lonely world There is a place where I belong. And I have seen its fields and streams They have been revealed in my dreams. But you see I cannot settle down. There's just too much left unfound. I keep drifting like a cloud On the wind, on the wind." PHILOSOPHY To those who possess open minds, eager hearts, and a love for adventure: You shan't be disappointed. To everyone else: You needn't squander my time.

Updated: September 2025 I am a Couchsurfing host who is fun, outgoing, well-traveled, and very open-minded – willing to try anything twice! Someone once told me that life was more fun when operating outside the comfort zone. They were right, and this is why I offer my guests an opportunity to step outside of their comfort zones and explore and experience things they normally wouldn’t. I joke around a lot, so I may not be the best host for you if you are easily offended. I don’t discriminate based on race, religion, sexual orientation (I am bi), political beliefs, etc. I do, however, judge people by their character. I enjoy spending time with the Couchsurfers I host but don’t expect Couchsurfers to spend all of their time with me. Sometimes I am too busy to spend a lot of time with guests. I enjoy outdoor grilling, mutual cooking, having some drinks, and engaging in stimulating conversations with my guests. Some of my favorite topics are travel, the cultures of my guests, current events, your life, and my life. I will talk minimally about politics. I have visited many countries and worked in various fields, from corporate America to the porn industry. Therefore, I have many things we can talk about. Great Couchsurfing experiences depend on the host/guest sharing some mutual interests and beliefs. Therefore, it is imperative that you read the My Home section, where you will learn more about what it is like to Couchsurf in my home. When requesting me as a host, please make mention that you have read this section and let me know: - Why you are visiting Austin - The mode by which you will arrive (plane, bus, car, etc.) - Expected time of arrival - Why you believe we are a good match - Which interests we have in common - That you have read my profile I generally do not accept requests that are generic in nature or fail to mention my name in the greeting. I do not want to host Couchsurfers who use drugs. It is not my scene. I also prefer to host non-smokers, but smoking is only allowed outside if you are a smoker (this includes vaping).
CURRENT MISSION write a book and go back to school ABOUT ME Loving, caring, loud, stubborn, fun, confident, adventurous, sometimes confusing but overall and amezing and vivacious person :) PHILOSOPHY Love and Help people in any way I can. Traveling is the best way to learn about life.
