Hi there! I'm Josh, a 24-year-old photographer based in Goma, in the stunning eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. I’m someone who lives for the magic of a first meeting and the thrill of exploring new horizons. For me, photography isn't just a job—it's how I connect with the world and tell the stories of the people I meet along the way.

Por que estou no Couchsurfing
I’m on Couchsurfing because I believe that human connection is the most valuable part of any journey. As a photographer, I spend my life looking through a lens, but Couchsurfing allows me to put the camera down and truly experience a culture from the inside. My goals are simple: To break stereotypes: I want to meet people from all over the world to share the reality of life in Goma and Congo, showing a side of my country that is full of creativity, resilience, and beauty. To find authenticity: I prefer a shared meal and a couch over a lonely hotel room. I’m looking for the "real" stories that only locals can tell. To grow as a human: Every person I meet teaches me something new about life, and I want to give back that same energy and openness to my hosts and guests. To expand my horizons: Travel is about more than just moving; it’s about changing your perspective. I’m here to learn, listen, and share my world with you.
Música, Filmes e Livros
Music I have a very eclectic taste in music, ranging from deep lyrical rap to legendary African rumba. My playlist often includes: The lyrical depth of: Youssoupha, Stromae, and Médine. The classics: The legendary Papa Wemba (a true icon of our culture). International vibes: Jay-Z and other global hip-hop artists. I’m always open to discovering local artists from your country! Movies & Series I enjoy powerful stories with strong characters and historical or epic backgrounds. Some of my favorites are: Epic & Strategy: Game of Thrones and Spartacus. Suspense & Drama: Prison Break. History & Romance: Outlander. (We can definitely have long debates about the endings of these shows!) Books I am curious about stories that deal with history, photography, and social issues. (Tu peux compléter cette partie si tu as des auteurs préférés, ou simplement laisser ainsi).

What I can teach you Photography 101: I can show you how to master your camera settings, work with natural light, or compose a shot that tells a story. Congolese Culture: I can teach you about our local traditions, the vibrant lifestyle in Goma, and perhaps a few essential phrases in Swahili or Lingala. The "Goma Perspective": I can share insights into what life is really like in our region, beyond what you see in the news. What I’m looking to learn New Perspectives: I want to hear your life stories and how you see the world from your corner of the globe. Languages: I’m always keen to practice my English or pick up a few words in your native language. Cooking Skills: If you have a favorite dish from your country, I’d love to learn how to make it! What I can share with hosts or guests My Portfolio: I’d be happy to show you some of my photographic work and the stories behind the images. A Great Meal: I love sharing a meal and having long, meaningful conversations. Local Guidance: If you're visiting Goma, I can show you the best spots that only locals know about and help you navigate the city safely.
O Que Posso Oferecer aos Hosts
Living in Goma, I have had the chance to stand at the edge of the Nyiragongo volcano. Watching the world's largest lava lake glow in the dark is an experience that humbles you. It reminds me how powerful nature is and how beautiful our region can be, despite the challenges. It’s a sight I will never forget and one I love sharing stories about.
