American living in Japan since February 2017. (coincidentally the month after Trump took office) I’ve lived in Kyoto and Okinawa prefectures as well as travelled to many other places in Japan during a 10 week trip in 2016 where I spent most of my time in the countryside volunteering. (WWOOF) My first encounter with couchsurfing was back in 2013 while I was a volunteer teacher in rural Argentina. I was fortunate to be able to stay with a friend/student/couchsurfer during the Christmas holidays. Random fact: While I’ve hosted couchsurfers in three different cities in Japan, I’ve yet to use couchsurfing in my home country of America. (I wanted to host surfers in my hometown but the demand in Minnesota turned out to be quite small) ***Fukuchiyama is two hours away from Kyoto city***
