Mereenie Loop or not

Hello all. I am thinking about driving the Mereenie Loop with my son who is 5 and was wondering whether the time I am staying in the region is too short for that and also if it's not too risky to drive alone (I have read a lot about flat tires :D) I arrive on the 6th around 10am so not sure I can manage to drive all the way to King Creek Canyon on the same day and I leave on the 9th.

Hey! Driving the Mereenie Loop is a great idea. It is a 4wd track so i am assuming you will have a 4wd. Yes it is definitely possible that you could get a flat, although unlikely. This is a commonly used track though so if you were to get into any trouble every single driver going past would always stop. And if you don't know how to change a tyre i would recommend having a practice or watching some Youtube channels before heading out. As for the time needed, i would say you can easily drive to Kings Canyon on the 6th. Then you would do the 3-4 hour rim walk on the 7th, but then what have you got planned to do on the 8th and 9th? There are some other things to see in the close by area of course, but you could drive another 300kms to Uluru (Ayers Rock). Then head back along the highway from Uluru to Alice Springs on the 9th.
