That's a good question, I always do car pooling whether in Europe or Latin America but since I moved to New York I always end up taking the bus to leave the city, I don't know of any overarching car pool "platform", hoping someone can recommend a website/app/facebook group in here But yes the bus or greyhound are both good options imo, I use rome2rio.com to compare options Hope it helps
hi! i used to live in philly and commuted to nyc every day haha so i know ALL the ways to go to and from. the cheapest is by bus. you can find tickets for 10-15$ if you book around the right time. greyhound/peterpan (same busline), megabus, boltbus will all get you there quickly and drop off at convenient locations in philly. theres the amtrak train (i wouldnt bother with it, its overpriced and gets you there in just about the same amount of time.) and theres the regional rail train which can take you up to an hour longer to get to philly and its more expensive. so def do the bus. keep in mind during peak travel times you will run into traffic. early am/right after work will take you a little longer.
Bus is the way to go. You're going to save on tolls of driving and it will be cheaper. It's an hour and a half trip. Bus line doesn't matter, just get the cheapest. You can also do NJ Transit and get down pretty much all the way there (hamilton or trenton, etc), if you have someone to pick you up at the stop..or uber in or take the septa, but at that point, just take the bus. less hassle.
bolt bus and megabus are much better than greyhound
more comfortable than the bus is the train -- check with New Jersey Transit http://www.njtransit.com/sf/sf_servlet.srv?hdnPageAction=TrainTo
There are no NJ Transit that run from NY to Phila. you have to go completely out of the way to Trenton and transfer. It’s longer and more expensive than the bus options provided here.
the train is much more pleasant and comfortable -- many adventurers prefer trains over buses!
If you are trying to get to Philadelphia, PA your best option will be megabus. It’s very inexpensive and you can book last minute.
Depending on where you want to go in Philadelphia you can compare Greyhound bus station to Megabucks or Boltbus curbside
@keegan Greyhound owns BoltBus.
See what a contemporary color scheme and slick marketing can do? ;)
While it is true that Greyhound owns Boltbus, they do have different service standards, similar but in some ways opposite to when major airlines own discount ones. Also my understanding is that Greyhound split from Peter Pan recently. Coach USA owns Megabus and the government owns Amtrak which owns the rails and operates the major stations between between New York and Philadelphia.
Bolt Bus or Megabus are fairly cheap ways to get there. I'm assuming you are talking about Pennsylvania. I've taken the trip a few times on those buses and it was easy. Usually cost about $15 on average.
