Need help with planning of visiting Yosemite without a car

Hi guys!

Me and my girlfriend are coming from Europe to LA for 12 days (In the middle of March) and we reaaally wanna catch visiting Yosemite, but we both don't have a driver's licenses, so it's kind a tricky for us.

What I have found about visiting Yosemite so far:

  1. It's fucking huge! (And there are lots of hiking routes)

  2. There are buses and trains going from LA

  3. You need to book campsite far ahead if you want to overnight there and it's not allowed to sleep outside of campsites..

  4. The temperature can be very low at nights.

So now I'm begging for a wise advice from someone who was there, because our plan for visiting Yosemite looks quite miserable for now.

What are we ready for:

  1. Rent tent and sleeping bags to sleep under the stars, but it looks like we have pretty good chances to be eaten by bears or just frozen to death.

  2. Use bus/train to reach Yosemite

  3. Hitchhike (but it's worthless in US, yeah?)

For now I see the only chance for : To find some short hiking route where we can arrive by bus early in the morning, walk around there for a few hours and jump on a bus at the evening. Please share, if you have something on your mind about possible place like this.

If you see another way how we can make our trip to Yosemite better or longer with our limitations (no car, accommodation only with tent) we would be very grateful for your ideas.
