We would like to rent a car and do a trip 26 October-1 November from Manila up North to Banaue, Kalinga and back.

Is it ok just to rent a car and go. Shall we be careful about something? Is it ok to sleep somewhere inthe openair? Shall we be scared about car robbery or it is safe there? Or do you know if there are some locals that would like to join us and be our guides?

Okay to drive, just make sure you have an international driving license.
Be careful about speeding in the NLEX, SCTEX, TPLEX expressway, they have radars that can detect if you exceed the speeding limit and they'll confiscate your license at the end of the toll gate.
You can take Manila to Baguio in 4-5 hours and rest there. Be careful about the zigzag road going to Baguio. Make sure to take Marcos (Ben Palispis) highway instead of Kennon Road. Kennon Road is sometimes closed due to boulders falling off from the mountain sides. Marcos is safer and the best choice if it is your first time to drive up. The trucks all pass through here so be careful, they can get quite slow in their ascent. You may overtake but be careful as some curves are incredibly blind.
Baguio to Banaue about 8 hours. Much more zigzaggy, less developed roads, but less cars as well. I suggest to always drive in day light for safety.
Always gas up.
It is not okay to sleep in open air.
General rule, if you look like you can be robbed, you will be robbed. So secure your car and park in legal and safe spots.

Would love join you but I've already made plans, and I'm not really a guide material in Banaue. Been once but with friends. Hope you enjoy and hope my answer helps!
