This will be my first lone trip to a city larger than Prague. What should I watch out for?
I'm coming to London for two weeks to see two gigs and an exhibition and to generally visit an English-speaking country for the first time. What should I be careful about? Thanks

Just watch your belongings at all times. Don't wave around your cash, and try to not look like the typical clueless tourist. You'll be absolutely fine. It's a fairly safe city. I honestly wouldn't worry too much about safety.
Just relax and have a good time. Just follow some basic common sense for solo travel and you will be fine - i.e don't carry ALL your bank cards and cash with you - not that you are at any particular risk. I've lived in London for 15 years and have only once been the victim of a crime, where my phone was stolen from my jacket pocket in a busy bar.
Try to avoid obviously touristy places/restaurants/activities because they are overpriced, not very good, and to be honest, are where you will find the most pick-pockets by far.
Do go to Couch Surfing events, explore outside of London and check out Meetup.com for more events. London is a very multi-cultural so try to new things that are not considered typically "English" - this is what makes London a unique city.
Enjoy your time!
When in another Country, its PARAMOUNT you mix with locals, you will learn their Culture, and also its RESPECTFUL.
Try not to go to South and East London after dark.
I wish there was a down vote button because this is just completely ridiculous. The only concern is that it might take you a long time to get home, depending on where you are staying. I would highly recommend checking out Tooting Market on a friday/saturday evening.
Can you please let me have my own opinion? Thank you!
I wish there was a down vote button also. Very uniformed comment re East and South London. Suggest you ignore it Tomas.
Many of the Top Ten are in North London.
I’m not going to argue with you Judit.
Peace and have a great day and weekend.
Yeah ignore Judit on this one, these are the best places to be in London after dark, have an amazing time! :D
London does have a lot of people working who are generally in a hurry, so try to avoid rush hours in central areas such as Bank, Liverpool street, Holborn, Euston, Kings Cross, Waterloo, Paddington, Victoria around 8am-9am and 5pm to 6pm. You may want to see what it is like, just expect a lot of people in a hurry to get to work or home from work.
We have lots of free museums so I would recommend visiting some and if the weather is nice maybe some of the parks
Don't talk in your phone on the street.Mobile phones get stolen from your hand by men on motorbikes.and kids on bicycles.
This could happen anywhere, so just be sensible!!
The biggest thing to watch out for,is the London Black cabs, and the Tourists!!
You don't really need to watch out for anything, London is incredibly safe, Posh people and idiots will try and warn you against certain areas but seriously there is nothing to worry about. Regarding motorcycle phone thefts, this is so rare and it's just about exercising a relatively low but attentive level of self awareness and whats going on around you. London is an awesome and safe city, Especially for Men (And not really that much more dangerous for women compared to say Mexico City where i am now). Have an absolutely amazing time and feel confident to wander off the beaten path and discover all the cool things the city has to offer!
