Hello all, I am in Brisbane until October 2027 but can only host singles. I am not set up physically in the flat or psychologically to manage more than one person at a time - my apologies. Me: I have had a fairly good life to date. I spent 6 years in the Navy from the age of 15 then another three years as a merchant seaman interrupted by a one year stint as a student finishing my high school education at the age of 23 (an adult class). I actually gave up going to sea because I had such a great time ashore studying. Not that I then continued studying. Instead I went farming growing small crops (vegetables) for almost three years. That was as isolating as being at sea. Still, no regrets! After working crazily in the blazing Australian sun, I decided I had better think about using my head instead of my hands. Being terribly/completely incompetent with machinery really helped with this decision. I seemingly have become more so as time has moved on. So, I went to university and studied Chinese and Economics. This was interrupted (nothing like the odd interruption) by a wonderful year in Taiwan studying Chinese at Shi Da in Taibei. From there, it was back to university to complete the BA and off to Beijing First Foreign Languages Institute for another year of Chinese study on a university language scholarship. I fell into a job representing Australian companies in the agricultural sector (after a year working for IBM) and stayed 8 plus years until 1991. This included 3 years in Hong Kong and working back into China. I was also working into Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Japan, Korea, and India during this period. After returning to Australia in 1991 and then representing a small horticultural equipment manufacturer, I worked into Europe, Japan and the US until 1998. Then it was back to Uni whilst being the local Convenor of the Australian Conservation Foundation to do a M. in Environmental Management (Hons). Since 2001, I have been a public servant, an electorate officer (working in a politician's office for 4 plus years), post graduate student again, a research assistant at Griffith Uni, Permaculture farm administrator, environmental coordinator, manager and educator at an urban farm, a carpenter's labourer, school cleaner and then a P/T casual hospital orderly - a meaningful, but relatively stress free, job helping people while making a modest living and getting plenty of exercise. I have now given work away and spending my time travelling, reading and studying and begin new phase with a MPhil in October 2026. I abhor all forms of discrimination, intensely dislike neo-liberal capitalism but love the diversity one finds in the human race, be it ethnic or gender related or whatever. People in general are wonderful though I think we could all do a lot better - too much hate, destruction and focus on "me" (it's called Main Character Syndrome - yes it is a thing and somewhat insidious in today's society it seems: See https://aeon.co/essays/why-main-character-syndrome-is-philosophically-dangerous) and what "I" can get out of others in this world. I have been fortunate to be provided with a service dog - Leila. In order to preclude people asking, having a service dog relates to my stint in the military many moons ago. I mean, would you ask someone as to why they have a wheelchair? Leila can be found at @leilathespringerspaniel and a blog at charlesandleila.wordpress.com She gets on with cats very well and no, she doesn't chase them. She is NOT a pet and so, if you could, please keep interaction with her to a minimum. She will push it, but too much interaction then distracts her for when she is working. The worst of distraction is she could be taken off me because she can’t do her job and that would be horrendous for both of us. I appreciate your consideration 🙏 Life has been and still is pretty good overall all said and done. Regrets are many but what we learn from and importantly, one needs to learn from one’s SNAFUs. There is little point of life otherwise.

I'm Chris; I used to live in Berlin but moved to Melbourne to do my PhD in social psychology here. I'm open-minded, love to meet interesting people and I'm deeply interested in other cultures. I love nature and take any chance to spend my time outdoors. I'm vegan, I'm a feminist and I dislike any kind of racism, sexism, speciesism, nationalism, islamophobia, homophobia, transphobia and other kinds of discriminations. I deeply believe that we can create a world without hatred and exclusion.

🚅Living the 🚌plane-free🚄 travel life Current adventure: I left Australia in September 2017 to travel in Europe. I spent two years in the UK living in London and then Oxford. I'm now in Belgium for a 12 month working holiday. So far on this trip I've visited Belgium, Greece, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Holland, France, England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland. 2019 was the first year I managed to travel exclusively by rail and coach (no flights), and I have been really enjoying seeing Europe by rail. About me: I love solo traveling and getting to know local people where ever I go. Hotels and packaged tours don't hold my interest. I'm a transport planner/town planner. I grow food at home. I like to cook. I ride a bike everywhere. I love photography, and shoot with a mirrorless full frame. Apart from the essentials, I don't care much for material things or status symbols. In 2016 I finally traveled in nearby Asia: Vietnam, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Cambodia. In 2017 I visited Nepal. I like languages. But I am not very successful at them! I know a little bit of Spanish, German and Japanese.

From the heart of Tropical North Queensland, I'm twenty-bloody-five, best ever birthday in Laos. 24 had me in the US for the first time and 23 had me in Europe for the first time. God, I love travel. Travelled solo, had the best first continuous CS experiences; stays, hangouts. Adding acquaintances and buddies for life is the best part of life. Love meetups and travel because merely my comfort zone is no area for growth. Shy, yet aggression is a hidden gem.
