CURRENT MISSION Backpacking, WWOOFing, meeting old friends abroad while also making new ones ABOUT ME I'm a West Virginia native, and studied music and English at Earlham College in Indiana. That makes me an expert on Middle of Nowhere, USA (so if you were for some reason to have any questions about this region of the United States, don't hesitate to ask). Stuff I do: Sustainable agriculture (I even lived in an agricultural intentional community). Music (I have been in several ensemble groups, ranging from traditional choir to avant-garde noise rock, and am a avid keyboard player with a personal collection of 6 Casios, Korgs, and wheezy sound boxes from the 60s and 70s that nobody wants to hear me play). Cooking (I've worked in professional kitchens, which I hate doing, and cook avidly for friends, relatives, and acquaintances, which I love doing). I love a good book or going out for a night on the town. I can drink my own weight so long as its not whiskey.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING Right now I'm traveling through Europe, relying on the hospitality of friends and strangers, BUT in December I'm moving to Chicago and will be able to host others. This is an experiment in good karma. COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE I´m new to this. No stories to relate yet!

movies- i can get down with everything from art films (Godard is a personal fav) to action movies (Goldeneye is the bomb). A few of my top films are The Royal Tennambaums, Die Hard, The Seven Samuri, The Third Man, and Gosford Park. I sometimes watch Herzog, but only when I plan to drink afterward. Music- I studied classical in college, and enjoy Beethoven, Bartok, Debussy, Ravel, Reich and all the other canonized white guys. Recently my tastes have become more contemporary including The Arcade Fire, The Dirty Projectors, Big Boi, Janelle Monea, Lady Gaga, and most of all SLEIGH BELLS. Books- I have read some books. Recent favs include Reading in the Dark, The Third Policeman, When Gravity Fails, and Oryx and Crake.

I've lived on farms, played in bands, cooked for friends in weekly meal rotations, taken long and occasionally ill-advised canoe and backpacking excursions out in the wild, learned the basics of bike mechanics, and shamelessly fumbled my way through more than a few languages while traveling abroad. These are things I like. Everything else is icing on the cake.
